"But what injuries cannot be used as is an excuse, because you know that boxing isn't very good for your health in the first place. I could say I fought the last four years of my career with one leg, that I couldn't extend my right elbow in the period '92-'93, that I had nausea in South Africa and diarrhea in Dubai, and was in the Correctional Facility of Indiana, USA to visit Mike Tyson in prison the night before I fought in Belfast.
"If I had used particular issues as excuses for loss(es) or supposedly below-par performance(s), I would've been looked upon in a lesser respect. Similarly if I had pulled out of a title fight or title defense, complaining of a bad arm or bad leg or wouldn't fight my mandatory challenger - all of which is unprofessional and not the mark of a proper champion dealing with the pressures - then I would've lost respect, no question about it."
