AMAZING VIDEO - LAYS TO REST THE AMIR KHAN 'CONTROVERSY'

Post by loaded_gloves »

This HL video really lays to rest the 'controversy'. Khan fouled all night, and the ref told him to stop all night:

This pushing tactic of Khan's looks so ingrained. I think it's probably too late for him to get rid of it now and develop the ability to fight inside that a true world champion should have. Most boxers foul but Khan pushes so repeatedly and so blatantly, it's as if he somehow thinks he has the right to do it. I think it's a very ugly tactic designed to compensate for a lack of boxing skill and I applaud the referee for penalising him for it.

I completely agree with Mr double N. Also drawing such attention to the controversy has really created a potentially big problem for Khan in subsequent matches. Any savvy trainer/promoter is going to get on to the ref about watching out for the pushing. And as it evidently comes as naturally to Khan as cretinous twitter posts it will put future refs under huge pressure to penalise him.

Well done to whoever made the clip. The Peterson camp will no doubt be very grateful.

Too many of the pushes were blatantly obvious .. especially the push that earned him the last point deduction.

It really is as if its a natural part of his boxing. Surely the greater than great Freddie Roach should have picked up on this?

I think i`ll look at some Khan sparring on youtube ..

Can someone 'tweet' this to the accounts of Amir Khan AND Lamont Peterson?

I personally don't know how to.

I think we owe it to boxing to circulate this video around the various boxing websites.

Can't argue with that BUT a lot of the controversy exists around the nature of the fouls and two points being deducted. I can't recall a single other fight in which a fighter was deducted a single point, let alone two, for pushing. And while Khan was not innocent here, he is certainly not the dirtiest fighter in the sport.

And where is the companion video that shows Peterson burrowing in, head first and not being penalised?

On a funny side, cos i'm getting very bored of talking about Khan now...............

On fight night champion (ps3) there is a button where you can push your oppenent off and it's legal lol. They also have low blows and head butts which you can get disqualified for, but the pushing away is legal and used a lot :D

Valuev/Ruiz, Klitschko/Haye, Lewis/Tyson, all fights with points deductions for pushing/shoving etc.

But weren't all of those cases of the bigger man pushing down on the head, shoulders and back of the smaller fighter?

Khan was punished for a shove in the chest - that type of push, I have never seen penalised before. I'm not trying to defend Khan here, as he was warned about it plenty, but it just seems a fairly unique means of having a point deducted.

Hmm, dunno. It's not quite just "pushing", is it? I mean, he gets his forearm (& if that misses, the elbow) in your face. When we say pushing we think of something quite innocuous. It's one of those "mild infraction" things that gets right on my tits, as in the normal run of things the "home fighter" gets away with such stuff & the bloke in the "I can't sell tickets" corner would get told off.

I don't disagree with any of this, but my point is that it's a foul that is rarely punished. Khan (and perhaps more pertinently, his team) should have heeded the warnings of the ref and adjusted accordingly. He/They didn't and was punished.

I think what the trouble was is that Khan was warned and chose to ignore the warnings so probably the ref lost patience with him

You only have to look around the various message boards and indeed some of the newspaper reports to realise that a high volume of people missed all of these moments.

If points were deducted every fight that happened in PBF would never win a fight.

Every Boxer pushes off, some more then others but i think the controversy was that this ref deducted 2 points when i can't ever remember another boxer getting deducted a point for the same thing in the 1000's of fights i've seen over the years or as the HBO team in 25 years of them covering boxing.

on a side note, i'd much rather see a boxer push off then clinch as it's a cleaner way of fighting and probably why Khan makes for exciting fights so i hope he dosen't start clinching instead.

Where's part deux the Lamont used his head a lot video.

Actually my favourite bit of pushing is when Big George pushed little Joe onto his punches in Kingston.

It is no different from what the ref does in a clinch....
