I'm afraid I had to look up the US based Pole. I'm not a proper boxing fan, you see, so I've never heard of him.

Currently ranked 39th on Boxrec at 175, he's 19-2 and coming off a 9 fight winning streak since his last defeat (TKO 2 by Derrick Findlay, a career gatekeeper down at Middleweight). He has earned a 9th place ranking within the WBO standings and was fighting at Welterweight just 5 years ago.

Nathan can't be pleased with this name at all. I'd be embarrassed standing on a podium with such a bum in front of me.

I would use that term very very loosely when describing the Cleverly's title.

I looked him up on Boxrec and not only have I not heard of him, I've not heard of anyone he's fought. Kudos to Team Cleverly for digging up this no mark.

Cleverley wanted Shumenov in a unification and gets a former welterweight! Maybe Frank W will blame it on the fact not enough real fans have subscribed to allegedly to justify anyone better. Hopefully Carl Froch will start a promotional company when he's retired and do the job properly

It is a shame that his home coming is against this bloke, even I can't justify this fight, not good for BN as a channel and not good for the sport IMHO

I suppose at least the Welsh /Clev fans have the balls to admit it is a bad match up, if this were Bellew the rest of the forum would be bigging the lad up and justifying the match up.

On a related issue, this brings to mind the familiar refrain whenever most fighters are asked who they want next:
"I'll fight whoever my manager and promoter put in front of me".

Depressing; I wish those who talk the talk about how great they are made sure they fought decent opposition. (This isn't a dig at Cleverly, but a more general observation.)

I like Eubank's attitude: I don't work for the promoter; the promoter works for me.

FW claimed that JC had the power of veto on all the fighters who were put in front of him. I wish more fighters would be proactive about this.

Bellew doesn't claim to be a world champion though.
Many on this forum gave Cleverly stick for fighting Bellew in the first place, now he seems to be taking a step back

It's terrible for Nathan. IMO, he suffers from complacency, so it is good to give him bigger names to fight. Not only that, but he needs to fight better opposition in order to reach his potential. Shame.

Agreed. I appreciate boxers like Carl Froch and Amir Khan at the moment. They're both fighting very good opponents on a consistent basis. It's good for them and good for us.

Not me - as already said, this is EXACTLY the Calzaghe blueprint all over again. When did this guy leap into the WBO's to 15, i wonder?

Fights like this are EXACTLY what i was discussing on that thread about UK fighters taking tough assignments abroad - and most people agree that matches like Sturm v Murray / Macklin, Canelo v Rhodes are a fantastic antidote to blow-outs like this.

Fights like this are EXACTLY the reason i why i am not committing to this channel until they prove themselves. It's almost like an apologetic late subsitute of a fight but announced months in advance.

Gimme Sky and FIve and a selection of Khan, Froch, Brook, Macklin, Barker, Murray, Price and Fury in exciting fights anyday. It's not that i don't want to watch Cleverly, Bellew, Saunders, Degale and Groves but i want to see proper competitive VALUE FOR MONEY matches, not knock-over jobs like this.

This thread juxtaposes quite neatly with the recent thread on British guys taking on tough foreign assignments. I tend to think that, with regard to risk-free matchmaking, things have improved over the last 18-24 months. UK fighters seem to be far less protected than under the WBU era.

I don't want this to be an anti-warren point I'm trying to make, but when you compare the recent runs following world title success by non-Warren UK fighters with those under frankie, one can see a correlation....

David Haye - Mormeck, Maccarinelli, Barrett, Valuev, Ruiz, Harrison, Wlad

Absolute joke of a fight, this is why I certainly have never been impressed with Cleverly - His skills have impressed me at times to be fair, but not his level of opponents most most the time

I remember watching the KO over Russell on ESB a while back and they were bigging him up as a real banger but I'm not too sure whether it was just Polish boxing fans hyping him up more than anything else.
