Jim Jeffries vs. Joe Frazier...
Im interested in takes on this matching of big swarmer against little swarmer, left hooker against left hooker. Both had aggressive, bullying styles, insane motors, and were fabled for their indomitable heart.

Irene, you need to read a bit more about Jeffries' style . . . He preferred guys like Frazier who came to him. He preferred NOT to swarm unless he had to such as against Jim Corbett.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Im interested in takes on this matching of big swarmer against little swarmer, left hooker against left hooker. I think Jeffries may very well be tempted to swarm in on a smaller man he could command hgmm the clinch, being easily the stronger man here.

He didn't "swarm in" on Tom Sharkey.Goodnight, Irene wrote:I think Jeffries may very well be tempted to swarm in on a smaller man he could command hgmm the clinch, being easily the stronger man here.

Ray, how do you see Jeffries' fightplan --- and the bout itself --- unfolding?
Re: Jim Jeffries vs. Joe Frazier...
Well, Joe and Jeff fought under different rules and conditions, so it's very hard to say how the bout would unfold - especially since we really only have written descriptions of Jeff's style and a couple of grainy and shaky old film clips of Jeff in his prime. Generally, I would say Jeff would probably try to fight Joe the same way he fought Sharkey.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Ray, how do you see Jeffries' fightplan --- and the bout itself --- unfolding?

Arguably, but it is hard to swarm in when you only have the use of one arm, isnt it.raylawpc wrote:He didn't "swarm in" on Tom Sharkey.Goodnight, Irene wrote:I think Jeffries may very well be tempted to swarm in on a smaller man he could command hgmm the clinch, being easily the stronger man here.

How do you like Jeffries' chances against Frazier, Boilermaker?

Both these guys are all time greats and therefore stand every chance against any fighter that ever lived. Actually, many say that Smoking Joe actually defeated the greatest fighter that ever lived.
Head to head though, it is a tough one. The Frazier fights suggest that Joe is in for a long night. But by the same token, Jeffries has never fought anyone like smoking Joe with the closest being probably the bob fitzsimmons, who fought aggressively and caused some horrendous damage to Jeffries before his hands gave way and Jeffries power took over. I think that this is probably what would happen, a late rounds victory for Jeffries. Probably more a cross between frazier foreman II and Jeffries Fitzsimmons II. But in the end i do think that Jeffries power gets him the win.
So far as all time ranking goes, i think Jeffries belongs a fair bit higher than Frazier.
