In light of an earlier thread which suggested that Lamotta was levels above toney who would you pick over 12?
For me I have Toney in this match up. While Lamotta not the crude slugger people make him out to be I don't see him being able to deal with Toney nor bully him as he woudn't be the bigger man.
Toney vs Lamotta
Re: Toney vs Lamotta
In a 12 rounder, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they fought to a draw or either fighter winning by a slim margin. Lamotta is the kinda guy that can give Toney trouble though especially considering Toney isn't gonna be able to hurt him enough to keep him off of him. Toney's counterpunching vs Lamotta's agression. It would be a great tussle

Jake by decision, Toney would land eye-opening counters but it's hard to imagine him staying active enough to keep pace on the cards. 8-4 ish for Jake, but I wouldn't call him on another level. Accomplishment wise at 160 for sure, but not on talent.

Dave Tiberi bullied him. Jake was a huge Middle in his day. 168 would have probably been perfect for him if it was around. The End wrote:In light of an earlier thread which suggested that Lamotta was levels above toney who would you pick over 12?

I almost said that myself Saad, that if Dave Tiberi was able to bully Toney, then Lamotta would surely have been able to also. But I tend to think along with Tiberi having a great night against Toney, Toney was having an off night. I assume Toney would be in tip top shape against someone like Lamotta.

He was a huge drainer at 160, I doubt he could ever be in condition enough for a Jirov paced fight there against a better and tougher opponent. Though to be fair, the McCallum fight was at a very fast pace. Albeit against a less aggressive opponent.gilgamesh wrote:I almost said that myself Saad, that if Dave Tiberi was able to bully Toney, then Lamotta would surely have been able to also.
