Khan: Jail will affect Mayweather - it's best time to fight

Post by whiskey »

C/o BS

Khan: jail will affect Mayweather - it's best time to fight him!

"Things happens for a reason. This fight [with Peterson] has probably put me back three months because I want to get the win against Lamont Peterson [in a rematch] and get to where I want to be. I hear Mayweather is in prison for 90 days. I think he'll need a couple of months to get back into it again and then train. I think right now is the best time to catch him. He's making a lot of mistakes now and doing a lot of things wrong on the streets as well. I think right now is the best time to catch him, when his hands are low and beat him. I know I got the style to beat him," Khan said.

Khan would be a cakewalk for Mayweather even if he fought him on the day he gets out of jail. Floyd would leave him shredded and humiliated.

Amir is a good exciting fighter but he should keep a lid on it or at least have someone proof read his statments, tweets etc because he's coming across like an imbecile on a regular basis.

Great, another thread by the hate mob. I'm sure they all prefer boxers to say "I'm no good, I should have easy fights to maximise my income."

No far better to call a boxer arrogant and an imbecile for wanting to fight the best.

I bet people called him arrogant and an imbecile when he told the ABA he wanted to go to the Olympics when he was not even a senior. Is it that kind of aim for the stars attitude people can't stand? Better to box in your hometown in a leisure centre and make out you're a world star.

In Khan's defence, his previous loss was a springboard to bigger fights so why wouldn't he hope for bigger fights now. Sometimes a loss is just the entry pass you need. Of course Mayweather would batter him, but that's not the debate here.

You EARN the right to call out the best. You don't sign up as a private and then demand the commanders position. It's like Mansfield Town calling for Barcelona as their next fixture - after coming off a thrashing from Chesterfield FC.

Dont you think he'd have learned already about discussing a Mayweather fight and taking his eye off the ball?

Now he's demanding a rematch, yet still got one eye on Mayweather.

He's not even the best at 140, yet covets the best at 147.

Yet the apologists flock to defend the indefensible.

To be fair Gomez (and this is from someone who likes Khan and Froch), did you slate Carl Froch for calling out Joe Cazalghe?

Many would have said he hadn't earn the right to call out Cazalghe in the earlier days, but he did. I don't mind it, in fact I welcome it, I think it helps the fighter and in some cases, interest in the sport. But what is good for the goose....

but its a shame (by his own admission) he doesnt want to fight the best Floyd isnt it? Relishing the chance to beat a unprepared distracted version. Not that he would. Or the fight will actually happen for that matter.

Khan may get a shot at Mayweather in the next 18 months because i seriously doubt whether the Pacquaio fight will happen now. Mayweather will keep talking it up and i expect all the stuff that has happenned over the last two years as far as "negotiations" to continue into the future. In the mean time Floyd needs to fill his calender with tick over fights as was the case with Ortiz and he is running out of these kind of opponents, hence Khan's chance of a fight in the near future.

The fight would need to happen within the next two years i think because Mayweather won't be around after the age of 36 IMO. Mayweather will perhaps have four more fights and that would include a possible encounter with Pacquaio, so that is roughly three opponents over the next two years. Mayweather will be looking for someone who is slightly more hype than reality and Khan fits that bill perfectly. The other two fighters in my opinion would possibly be Berto and Bradley.

The only thing that could de-rail such a fight is if the Pacquio fight happenned and Mayweather retired for good or Khan goes on a losing streak, which is highly unlikely. Khan needs to re-establish himself and try and clean up the 140lbs division by beating Peterson in a re-match, then fight Alexander and Bradley before moving up to the 147lbs division. But a possible fight with Mayweather doesn't hinge on him being the best around, as was the case with Ortiz, so he talks it up to make it happen.

To be fair Gomez (and this is from someone who likes Khan and Froch), did you slate Carl Froch for calling out Joe Cazalghe?

Give over James :OhYes:

When your the unbeaten British & Commonwealth champion, calling out your domestic rival for a fight many want to see.. And they instead choose a light-middleweight Evans Ashira really is a flaky comparison. Especially when Froch battled his way into the #1 WBC mandatory position and was top 10 ranked for the previous 2 years with all 4 organisations.

Fact is Khan is from another weight class, one he's 3 or 4th in and has not even threw a punch at Welter.

At least Ortiz snatched a title from a very decent unbeaten champion beforehand.

Khan lost his titles. Yet still calls for it? Calling it how it is shouldn't be argued.

Khan doesn't seem to have any sensible PR. He has often spoken of getting fighters when they are in a weaker state or at a low point. Floyd aint gonna fight him - Khan needs to regroup and push himself to the head of the queue. Regardless, he gets destroyed by Floyd.

Froch was calling out Calzaghe when he was fighting 8-rounders on the undercard of Howard Eastman and Herbie Hide fights.

Khan is calling for a Peterson rematch, he has been calling out Bradley for a year even right to his face.

Not offended at all mate, just think Khan gets treated more harshly than some of his peers. I mean, when he comes out with the sort of horse sht he did after the last fight, you can see why people judge every outlandish thing he says as ludicrous, but I don't think this particular case is.

I think Froch was calling out Calzaghe earlier on than that and was getting a bad rep in some quarters because of it, I'm sure I recall it being perceived as arrogant at the time. I really would have loved to have seen them fight, but when you say many would have, I'm not sure it captured the imagination of the casual Joe Public fan when Carl started to call for it. It’s about profile and perception. Yes now it would, but not then. Froch deserved far more coverage than he received on his climb up to world level and his time there since, but the fact is that a few years ago, nobody outside boxing new who he was. Globally, interest would have been negligible in comparison to a world level fight - which is what Khan and Mayweather would be billed as.

Khan is a huge name here and a growing name in the States, while Mayweather is known to the man on the street here for annihilating Hatton. The fight, as uncompetitive as it would be, would sell in absolute bucket loads and Mayweather gets the record breaking ppv figures. Khan is a world level fighter, which is the only category you need to make this kind of fight, sometimes you don't even need that. In addition, Floyd likes to fight a lighter man, especially one with what Michael Gomez called ‘world class vulnerabilities’.

The fight is conceivable and my opinion is that Khan is entitled to do the sales pitch to chase it. It doesn't tick all the boxes for a fight fan (though I'd be a very interested spectator while it lasted), but it does tick the business boxes, and unfortunately in this case I think them be the ones that count.

Khan loves to take on guys when they are finished. Mayweather would KO him. Carl Froch must spew when he reads Amir Khan's approach to selecting opponents. Hank Armstrong will be spinning in his grave. Khan would probably exhume him.

Barrera was chosen by a former promotor for name recognition
Judah was a belt holder

Who else you got? Graham Earl? (Was still tipped by many on here to beat him and was only one fight after going toe to toe with Katsides to fight a Khan who had only had 14 fights. Sure some said he was finished, some weren't so sure. Who did you pick in that one?) Michael Gomez? Who were obviously both selected by his previous promotor. Khan might not be on Froch's run of opposition but then who is? In the grand scheme of things he isn't doing that badly at all. Kotelnyk, Malignaggi, Maidana, Judah and Peterson were all top 10 when he fought them

Absolutely, Cazalghe had shown vunerabilities but I don't think the general view at the time was that there were in the same ball park, not then, not from what I can remember anyway.... When Froch was fighting Sergey Tatevosyan in 2007, I don't think the public knew or cared who Froch was - yet I'm sure he'd been calling Joe out for a few years by then.

My argument is simply based on feasibility of the fight, and I think there is at least as much chance of Khan-Mayweather as there was of Froch-Cazalghe, I'm still convinced of that. So why not call for it? Other than the fact he'll be mullered, which we all agree on. It would be an easy nights work for Floyd, actually it's the kind of nights work he Floyd has been known to opt for, making the fight even more feasible, and therefore Amir calling for it more acceptable - in my mind anyway. Certainly not meaning to slate Froch, the man is a warrior and is great value. I'm just pointing out that Khan isn't the first person to call people out when he is considered by the majority to be the inferior fighter.

So to crystallise all the analogies : Don't call out the #1 when you just got beat up by #85.
