Talk of Roy Rutherford against Stumpy

Hearing rumours that Roy Rutherford could be fighting for the Commonwealth featherweight title against Steve "Stumpy" Chinnock on the February 14 show in Nottingham (topped by Jawaid Khaliq against Ener Julio). Nothing confirmed, and Nicky Cook would have to relinquish his Commonwealth belt first, but it could well happen.
Chinnock stands 5ft 10ins and yet can make nine stone. He floored Dazzo Williams in losing a narrow British title eliminator last year. Rutherford also lost to Williams on a narrow decision last year (losing his British title).

Good Midlands derby -Rutherford from Cov against Rugeley's Chinnock.

If 'Stumpy' can make weight it should be interesting, both fighters having previously lost to Dazzo Williams, though for my money Roy was harshly treated in defence of the British title.

I would take Rutherford's polish and higher level of experience to win a decision here, though a 5ft 10 Feather is always going to be a difficult prospect!

Its a tough fight, Chinnock gave Dazzo Williams a few problems in their close contest and of course Rutherford and Williams recently had a very close contest.

I did believe that Rutherford was a little bit to good for the domestic level fighters, but the closeness of Williams vs Rutherford (which ever way you scored it) proved this wasn't the case. I'm leaning towards Rutherford, but I'm mainly on the fence.

The fight's been confirmed for this Saturday in Nottingham for the inaugural English super-featherweight title. The extra few pounds will probably suit "Stumpy", given his freakish height for the weight, but Rutherford won't complain either, given he boxed at lightweight in the amateurs.
