They both showed a lot of class, my heart was in my mouth when Rogan took to the ring. Good work by both men and by Mick Hennessy. Pity the fight itself isn't the greatest.

I remember when he wanted to box for Ireland as an amateur and there was a problem with "paperwork" in that there was no birth certificate to prove where either he or his dad were born.

The paperwork has since been found. If they found it before the Irish ABA finals it's likely that Fury would have been at the Olympics for Ireland. Pity it was our best team ever.

It'll be for the Irish title as well. See Fury did tell us ge was dropping the British title for something better. *chuckles*

This has always genuinely confused me. I can completely accept the fact that Northern Ireland is definitely part of the United Kingdom, but as Great Britain is an island, I've never fully understood the notion that Northern Irish people can even be eligible for British nationality, since they are from the island of Ireland, not Britain. I understand that they are not nationals of the Republic of Ireland, but at the same time, how can they represent an island (Britain) that they are not from?

Which leads me to the bit I find most confusing. If Britain is an island and the United Kingdom is the sovereign nation, why do we even have a British nationality? Great Britain is not a recognised sovereign state. I know it would be difficult to find a sensible-sounding name for this nationality, since United Kingdomish would sound utterly ridiculous, but it seems logical, and would certainly clarify the Northern Irish situation, as they are clearly part of the nation of the United Kingdom and not the Republic of Ireland.

Sorry, just a little 2:30am rant.

Irish nationalists, who will soon be in the majority, naturally gravitate towards the south. 'Northern Ireland' is artificial and has only been in place since 1921.
Rogan is a nationalist and as such has a right to be viewed as an Irish citizen. The republic is also artificial by the way but is closer to the real thing than NI.

Legally, under the British Nationality Act (which I think was 1981), all citizens of the United Kingdom ie Great Britain and Northern Ireland (and some other random places) are deemed to be British Citizens. As others have pointed out, there are then other laws whereby citizens of Northern Ireland and also choose Irish citizenship.

I agree calling us all British citizens is a bit miselading.

Thought this thread was going to be about Brian Magee's win over in Denmark. Very nice KO and keeps him in mix for some more big fights.

Back on topic...both Fury and Rogan conducted themselves very well. Ignoring the debate around Fury giving up his titles etc, this willl be a very fan friendly fight and will continue to build Fury's profile via C5....which you could argue is perhaps as important as holding belts.

It would be an entertaining fight if Martin was 4 years younger, but at 41 & semi retired, I think he'll get a shellacking unfortunately.
