For $24.99 you get to watch all the fights for up to one year. Much cheaper than flying to colorado.usaboxingmetrony wrote:What the heck! We gotta pay to see it live? :-( that really sucks hopefully someone's recording or recording the live stream just hopefully......
Re: USA National championships
do you all believe the reload is a good idea?or a waste of time money resources??
Re: USA National championships
this tournament definitely breaks with tradition, and depending who you talk to and what you read, the boxers who qualified and went to the Worlds and didn't gain "quota", got screwed because they have to box again, and on the flip side, nice to see boxers get a second chance.
Other news, hard to believe Lenroy Thompson and Luis Arias were suspend for a year for failing to take drug test.
Another under the radar happening of USA boxing.

Re: USA National championships
Reported by ESPN that both boxers have been suspended and that their records for the specified past are expunged but can they turn pro?
A turkish boxer was suspended for life for hitting a referee but is now a successful Pro.

Re: USA National championships
I see why not. USA boxer Jerren Cochran was suspended for two years in June 2010 for positive test of Furosemide and turned pro a month later.mike222 wrote:Reported by ESPN that both boxers have been suspended and that their records for the specified past are expunged but can they turn pro?
I smell lawsuits/boxoffs happening :X

Re: USA National championships
In the past the Olympic trials were held and boxers had three chances to qualify for Olympics at international comps. This weeks winners will get one chance. I don't think we are putting our boxers in the best position with minimal international experience going into the trials or London. Hopefully our winners from this week qualify in Brazil.
I just heard about the suspensions and technically Lenroy failed to disclose location (meaning he wasn't where he was supposed to be) three times but that's still the responsibility of the athlete to submit schedules and locations for random testing. But Michael Hunter tested positive and was given a three month sentence http://www.usada.org/media/sanction-hunter
Not sure I will ever understand how this "works".

Re: USA National championships
We have had a few of these missing test suspensions including our 400 Metre Olympic champion and a former England soccer captain.Miss three tests and you are suspended but you are not banned from the Olympics.Fail a drug test and you receive a life ban from the Olympics. Can be quite a difference.
Re: USA National championships
You can check out the suspensions for all the USADA athletes at http://www.usada.org/sanctions/. The list shows boxers Thompson, Arias, Damon Allen, Michael Hunter, Jerren Cochran, Jesus Gomez, Michael Wilson, Johnny Vasquez, Jr., Frankie Caruso III (2003), James Lester Jr. (2003), and Joseph Pastorello (2002).

Re: USA National championships
Just my thoughts after watching a ton of these bouts online (and offline since the stream hasn't really been working live for the last couple of sessions. These are just random thoughts, not in any order.
This tourney like any other weeklong tourney, is going to be about 1) the draw 2) staying healthy and 3) staying focused as much as it will be about boxing skills. . . .imo.
I can't believe Anthony Sims is 178!! He was boxing 139lbs. in the Silvers in 2010 and was 165 in the JOs last year. He's really filled out and has put together an impressive streak for a youngster at such a high weight class. Definitely keeping my eye on him this week.
#1 141 seed Semajay Thomas losing early was a surprise.
JO National Champ Julien Rodriquez is another youngster to watch who opened up this week with a victory of USMC boxer Canale, an RSC against another young boxer and then an impressive win over DeLorien Caraway. Not necessarily because of who he beat, it was just an impressive showing for the youngster because of what I saw. I see him getting to the semis to face Robert Easter.
Robert Easter avenging loss in PAL over Mike Reed was surprising but he boxed well and he earned that W.
I know this is really the reocurring theme of this post but I can't help but give props to the youngsters. Gary Salazar and Shawn Simpson have been impressive also. Simpson IMO will meet up with Louie Byrd in what should be a great bout. Simpson is coming down from 114 after losing to Raushee in Mobile. Gary told me at the JOs in Mobile that he's coming for those 123lbs-ers and even though this weight is already secured for London, still a pretty impressive showing by the youngster.
Kenneth Sims vs. Adam Fiel is going to be one to watch too.
Antonio Russel vs. Raynell Williams I can't wait to see this one too.
Like I said, I'm greatful for the streams and archives but there have been numerous outtages this week and some of the archives aren't correct or complete with bouts missing. But, IT IS BETTER THAN NOT SEEING ANY OF THE VIDEOS. So, I applaud USAB for helping us who cant make it feel like we are there.

141 J. Herring vs. Julian Rodriquez (2011 National JO Champion), who put a great performance in this evening vs. Robert Easter. Wow. No matter what happens he has turned in the most impressive showing this week in my opinion.

Is Gary Salazar in the finals?

I also was honored by Ring 8 out of New York with Marcus Browne out of New York. What a nice young man he is.

I've known Julian and his dad for a long time and they are good people. Both Julian and Gary Salazar are very nice young men and their coaches/families should be proud of their accomplishments -especially this week.

I agree with your impression of Julien Rodriguez....whew! He exudes confidence and extreme power. He turned it up and got his fans to their feet. I also want to express how dissatisfied I was with the decision on Gary "Antonio" Russell v. Raynell Williams, I personally thought he pulled that
