ATTENTION PLEASE!! ???'s re: future of simulated pugilism.

Post by BoxBuzz »

Please cut, paste and answer these simple questions in your reply. I'll consider them carefully before ignoring uh I mean... implementing your valued input.

1. Who wants to go another season?
2. When should it begin? ('m thinking April 1st)
3. How long should it last (I'm thinking 25 events)
4. Does the new way of posting the fights to the forum work for you? (Yes it's not pretty) But can it be tolerated?
5. Should the "spoiler" (first post that gives the threads outcomes) be put to the bottom or remain on top?
6. What weight class? (Can we rule out any weight class we have experienced since the great erasure?)
7. What is your opinion regarding a hypothetical pound for pound event? (If the software will flex to this demand) I'm currently testing the waters on this. E.G. Mike Tyson vs Ricardo Lopez with weight factored out....
8. Where's my beer?

I'm going to bed, so I'll answer some of the others tomorrow.
4. Does the new way of posting the fights to the forum work for you? (Yes it's not pretty) But can it be tolerated?
I like it that we don't know the result until we get to the end, and so we can see the fight unfold if we chose to. :TU:

I don't think we need 4 threads though (5 with the main results page (which i think should still exist)). All the fight cards could be shown in the first post and colour coded to the corresponding fight posts.

Eg
Fight Card 1
Bout Fighter 1 Fighter 2 Odds Winner
Opening Bout Joe Louis Larry Holmes
Support Bout Muhammad Ali Peter Jackson
Co-Feature James Jeffries Joe Frazier
Main Event Jack Dempsey Rocky Marciano

Fight Card 2
Bout Fighter 1 Fighter 2
Opening Bout Eric Esch Peter McNeeley
Preliminary 1 Jimmy Young Greg Page
Preliminary 2 James Braddock Ron Lyle
Support Bout Sam McVey Jack Sharkey
Co-Feature David Haye Riddick Bowe
Main Event Archie Moore Ken Norton

Fight card 3
...
Opening Bout
Joe Louis vs Larry Holmes

Fight info: Chicago Stadium, Chicago...
Support Bout
Sam McVey vs Jack Sharkey

Fight info: Silver Reef Casino, Ferndale

etc

Then you could lock the thread and link it to the main results/discussion thread.

1. Who wants to go another season? Me

2. When should it begin? (I'm thinking April 1st) Fine

3. How long should it last (I'm thinking 25 events)Fine

4. Does the new way of posting the fights to the forum work for you? (Yes it's not pretty) But can it be tolerated? Yes (though agreed TF's was easier on the eye)

5. Should the "spoiler" (first post that gives the threads outcomes) be put to the bottom or remain on top? Top is fine (but not too bothered either way)

6. What weight class? (Can we rule out any weight class we have experienced since the great erasure?) Again not too fussed, all have great fighters and fights locked away.

7. What is your opinion regarding a hypothetical pound for pound event? (If the software will flex to this demand) I'm currently testing the waters on this. E.G. Mike Tyson vs Ricardo Lopez with weight factored out.... Interesting, if it's not too time consuming and effort for those running it.

8. Where's my beer? Under the stair cupboard, behind the brown bag, under those purple shoes.

Can we please use this....A slightly more advanced model?

One thread for all fights locked upon posting? I can do that! Crease and I had debated that before we began, and thought better of it based on all the scrolling that would be needed.....but we can try it this week and see what the opinions are.

My answers:

1. Who wants to go another season?
Yes, I'm in for another season.

2. When should it begin? ('m thinking April 1st)
Maybe even sooner than that. I was thinking of a 10 day gap between the end of this season and the star of next season. Giving people a week and a half to register.

3. How long should it last (I'm thinking 25 events)
25 sounds good. But I don't like to limit because we don't know how the season will pan out. I say let the BoxRecSim public decide while progressing through the season.

4. Does the new way of posting the fights to the forum work for you? (Yes it's not pretty) But can it be tolerated?
Certainly. As this point in time there is no alternative... Though I would be open for suggestions on how to get back to the Windows Live thing that TF did.

5. Should the "spoiler" (first post that gives the threads outcomes) be put to the bottom or remain on top?
Bottom. At least let us enjoy the thrill of the read before finding out the result.

6. What weight class? (Can we rule out any weight class we have experienced since the great erasure?)
Yes, I would say rule out the weight classes that we've had since That sad day, that means:
Light Heavyweight, Featherweight, Welterweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight.
Though I wouldn't mind another Featherweight or Middleweight season... They were both only 20 weeks.
But my choice would be: Light Welterweight.

7. What is your opinion regarding a hypothetical pound for pound event? (If the software will flex to this demand) I'm currently testing the waters on this. E.G. Mike Tyson vs Ricardo Lopez with weight factored out....
I was reluctant at first, I struggle to get my head round the Foreman vs Pacquaio matchup and things like that.
But I'm willing to play iof that's what the Sim public wants.

8. Where's my beer?
Are you still hiding it?

1. Who wants to go another season?

Hell, yes.

2. When should it begin? ('m thinking April 1st)

:OhYes:

3. How long should it last (I'm thinking 25 events)

:TU:

4. Does the new way of posting the fights to the forum work for you? (Yes it's not pretty) But can it be tolerated?

^^
5. Should the "spoiler" (first post that gives the threads outcomes) be put to the bottom or remain on top?

top. (spoiler not needed, as the results are in the results/discussion thread)

6. What weight class? (Can we rule out any weight class we have experienced since the great erasure?)

I'm down with any.

7. What is your opinion regarding a hypothetical pound for pound event? (If the software will flex to this demand) I'm currently testing the waters on this. E.G. Mike Tyson vs Ricardo Lopez with weight factored out....

I'm in. Could stretch it out to a lower weights season and an upper weight season maybe?

8. Where's my beer?

Was that yours?
