Police have launched a murder enquiry following the fatal stabbing of a man at a private party in Norwich.
Police were called at 12.07am to a residence at Long Lane in Bawburgh to reports that man in his 20s had been stabbed. Paramedics attended the location but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.44am. The property has been sealed by police and a forensic examination is currently underway.
Police can confirm that the incident occurred at a private party being held at the home of former world champion boxer Herbie Hide. It is understood more than 100 people were in attendance at the time of the event and police officers have spent the night gathering evidence from those who remained at the scene. Mr Hide and his family have relocated as police carry out investigations at the scene.
"A large number of people are known to have been present at the property at the time and while we continue our efforts to identify and speak to all party goers, I would urge anyone who left the scene before speaking to police to contact Norfolk Constabulary as soon as possible on 101.""
Det Supt Julian Gregory, Major Investigation Team
Detective Superintendent Julian Gregory of the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, overseeing the investigation, said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation and working to establish the sequence of events which led to this man's death.
"We are also in the process of confirming the victim's identity and police Family Liaison Officers have been assigned to work with next of kin.
"A large number of people are known to have been present at the property at the time and while we continue our efforts to identify and speak to all party goers, I would urge anyone who left the scene before speaking to police to contact Norfolk Constabulary as soon as possible on 101."
Officers will be providing high visibility reassurance patrols in the area later today and a Home Office post mortem is due to take place this afternoon. Anyone who has information about the incident should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers
