Hi,

Did anyone watch the Meager-Chill John fight in Dec 2002?.....

or the Meager-Eldridge fight in Oct 2002?.

If so, did one of these fighters expose anything in Meager? Apparently, Eldridge looked the stronger of the two throughout the fight, and it was a fight in which Meager apparently looked behind when the referee stopped it prematurely in his favour.

I saw Meager's last fight, when he stopped Charles Shepherd. On paper this is a good win, but if you consider Shepherd was on his last legs as a pro, and the fact that Meager struggled early on to get a foot hold in the fight, it merely told me that Meager is an overrated fighter.

Anyone else's thoughts?

I saw the Meager-John fight and Lee pretty much dominated I thought and overwhelmed Chill on the ropes until the referee called a halt.

Charles Shephard is still as strong as they come and I liked the way Meager dug in and stepped the pace up in the last third of their fight and made Shepherd pull out at the end of the 8th (i think).

So I would say Lee is probably getting the credit he is due and he's also entertaining. Talking of overated lightweights I would say Danny Hunt fits that bill and he's English champion and he's not entertaining in my opinion.

Out of interest Dean, did you think Danny Hunt beat Anthony Maynard?

I felt it could have gone either way.....what swayed it was the 10-8 round in which Hunt scored an illegitimate knockdown in one of the earlier rounds.....it clearly should not have been scored a knockdown.

I personally didn't see anything impressive in Hunt. He showed glimpses of skill, but looked easy to hit on numerous occasions; certainly something a puncher would capitalise on. Having said that, he is still young and on the learning curve. Time will tell. But from what I saw of him certainly wouldn't put me off fighting him.

Maynard I think is finished now.
