I'm sure somewhere in the recesses of Chuvalo's mind, he takes a gander at the condition of his contemporaries and maybe thinks he is the real champ afterall.

Always wondered how Ali would have done and what strategy he would have employed against George in a 40-rounder, like in the real old days.

That's great - and after all the tragedies in his life. Here's his website:

Sharp and articulate and funny after all his fights - 93 pro fights - and all his personal tragedies!

Chuvalo was pretty good at parrying shots with his gloves, but the guy almost never moved his head and fought so upright for a pressure fighter . . he even said years back in an interview that he regretted not fighting out of a crouch more . . I agree. His trainers must have been telling him to use more head movement and bend down. Guess it just wasn't in his DNA.

I would have liked to have seen Chuvalo have a go against Rocky.

You only have to watch Facing Ali to see who the real "winner" is.

Chuvalo is a King. There would have be something mentally wrong with someone if they don't like Chuvalo. He is everything that is good about boxing.

Anyone think he edged Ernie Terrell?

One of my favourite quotes from Chuvalo:
"I kissed a few girls. But I never kissed the canvas"

I chuckled when I first heard it and now it always makes me smile when I think of it.

The fact that they have a show called Facing Ali tells us who the winners are. All of these guys in the movie are winners because thier legacies will be remembered many years after death. The legacy of The Greatest will no doubt shine the brightest even 1000 years after his death and he will be the undisputed winner

Not only was Chuvalo a great fighter but he is a good and decent man. He and my father (Teddy Swain) were friends and I remember George visiting are cottage when I was a kid, he was a man I really looked up too.
Too bad he was a lousy fisherman. lol

No.

I heard Chuvalo saying he felt he was robbed in that fight, and I went to rewatch it. Terrell deserved the decision. Chuvalo came on strong late to make it relatively close but Terrell clearly banked more rounds. Chuvalo in many fights vs stick and mover types (Ellis, Ali, Terrell) simply didn't throw enough punches.

What a chin Chuvalo had too. George is about 75 these days and still seems to be sharp as a tack.
