Macho is spot on. Not all will get to top level in 18 months and you don't want them to burn out but I'd suggest the natural breaks over xmas and the summer can cover that. Look how often the K's fought early on? 8 times a year in a first year seems a reasonable amount. Difficult balance though, you don't want loads of Hungarian 1 round knockover jobs but watching 4/6 rounds of one of our journaymen just survive will turn off may casual fans - hardly their fault if they aren't willing to be sparked out for TV ratings though! Not easy...

And it takes time to adjust to the increasing number of rounds, gloves and head gear that an amateur has done day in, day out for years.

I find it hard to swallow though, that even experienced pro's in this country are still given sh*t fights after winning titles.

I think this is the way forward. You have to bear in mind however that you have to choose your Olympian wisely you need somebody who will bring excitement in style and at least have some sort of marketability ie charisma looks. Mick Hennessey is a good promoter for the right type of fighter who wants to challenge themselves. Hennessey has a reputation for matching fighters fairly hard early on. Despite what people may say about Froch and Sky etc I think he is a very good promoter.

The obvious choice would be Joshua if he gets a decent profile and wins a medal during the Olympics. Possibly Ogogo could fall into that category as he seems to be a bit of a media darling. Stalker will want to matched hard when he turns pro being long in the tooth and is a great turn around story.

They would do well as support bouts for Fury/Eubank

The number who failed to establish careers as successful professionals would be far less if transitioning amateurs, and their representatives, made more astute choices when it comes to building a coaching team. It's not unusual for top amateurs to regress when they turn pro. This simply shouldn't happen.

There is also the problem that scoring points and keeping out of harm's way amateur-style , isn't the route to victory in the paid ranks.

Sometimes you need to crash in, hurt the opponent and boss the fight. That's why we often see failed amateurs who mix it up well, far exceed their competitors who might have been miles better during their respective amateur days.

Kelson Pinto and Mohammed Abdullaev both beat Cotto handily - but in the pro's he wrecked them both that badly they never did anything else.

Be fantastic for the sport if it did happen. I hate it when a fighter gets 5 million+ viewers at the Olympics then disappears from public view onto Sky, maybe 250,000 on a very good night. Olympians are special cases and if handled properly their careers can become a massive platform for the whole sport. It'd be great to see them all on terrestrial, but we'd be talking some phenomenally massive signing on fees and purse guarantees. I'd be surprised if it happened.
