He got caught by bigger and better punches in the Judah fight. What's your point? He's always been mortal...Loads of fighters have caught Floyd flush, going back to the days when he boxed Castillo. This is really just a useless point to make.
Amazed Cotto lasted the route. This wasn't the Floyd of even two years ago
Because of??? He got caught more vs Castillo. Hatton and Judah caught him etc.
He's slowed down enough so that his technical flaws (that leaning away from punches thing that sometimes becomes sticking his head up at an odd angle, so he gets caught with orthodox left jabs/southpaw straight lefts (see also: first four rounds of the Judah fight): there were a couple of times last night where he obviously expected to be safely out of harm's way but got caught so utterly flush with the jab his head looked like a Pez dispenser) are now coming to light. I've never seen him obviously feel the pace before.
All this, yet he still won a near landslide? PRetty amazing right?
I find it very hard to believe Floyd "intended" to hit Cotto with everything but the corner stool & fail to do more than discomfort him briefly, get his nose busted up & fail to manhandle Cotto on the inside like he so obviously wanted to do, in order to somehow bait Manny into a showdown or "prove" something to someone. That's the most idiotic thing I think I've ever heard, meself.
After finding the first few rounds so easy, I think Floyd got complacent. This explains him giving (what my old trainer calls) "freebies" away. Did he get caught when he was boxing on the outside? The answer is categorically no. He got caught when he took more risks, which is the classic trade off boxers make. He could have (and should have) done what he did to Baldomir if he didn't get complacent. I also think he's thinking about pleasing fans and observers more...which imo is pointless. However, when shit hits the fan, he reverts to type. That's how he won last night.
I've been going on for months about how Cotto was going to be picked apart, lose every round, not lay a glove on him & get KO'd.
But this says something about you, not Floyd.
I believe Mayweather thought exactly the same thing & there were times in there where you could just tell he was thinking "Fvck, this is hard work", which is something he hasn't had to contend with since the first Castillo fight, really.
See my point about complacency, then compare how he boxed him from the outside.
