Augie Retner Copper Coin question.

Hello i am in the USA. After checking around it seems that a very old coin i recently found has British Roots. Does anyone know of a copper coin that has a cloaked man on the front that says Impverial Service Boxing Association On the back it says
says British Empire and American Services Boxing Tournament 1913 Augie Ratner. Any information would be appreciated.

That's an interesting piece of memorabilia.

raylawpc, you do Ratner a disservice. He beat four world champions and was, at one time, one of the best middleweights in the world. He was certainly no journeyman!

I imagine there are quite a few bouts missing from his Boxrec record.

Hello again i cleaned the augie ratner coin and it is 9 kt gold. I dont know if it is collectable or scrap any sugestions.

What a shame the commemorative coin is not still with the Ratner family.
I assume this would have been given to Augie when he won the Middleweight
series in the British Empire and American Services Boxing Tournament December 1918
at the Royal Albert Hall.

Johnny Basham considered his 20rd. contest with Ratner in 1919 as amongst his greatest
ring struggles.

About three decades ago while working in a machine shop, I was told by a fellow worker that he served with Augie Ratner in the famed 1st Division, also known as "The Big Red One," during World War II.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans BIRLS Death File, one Augie Ratner enlisted on October 18, 1940 and was released (discharged?) on October 6, 1943. He was born on May 20, 1894 and died on May 13, 1979.

Thats him. Augie was a real character. Its no surprise that he rejoined the army. Even well into his 70s he was still in great shape and weighed close to his fighting weight.
