Martin Murray vs Felix Sturm

Post by davie »

Why didn't this happen again???

for all the fantastic performances from Macklin, Barker and Murray against Sturm and Martinez
Murray was the only one not to lose.

i thought he was brilliant against sturm and for me, sturm looked like he was there for the taking against macklin and murray

i always want to see a rematch after a draw,

yet sturm went onto fight Sebastian Zbik and Murray is due to fight soon on the Quigg undercard against an, as yet unnamed, opponent

does anyone know the reasons this fight never happened? Murray must have wanted it!

By all accounts to get a rematch with Sturm you have to literally sell him your soul for your entire career. According to Macklin he wanted something like 40% of ALL his future purses to agree to a rematch ( the percentage may be wrong but it was high, can't remember the exact figure) If that was what Murray was offered I'm not surprised it hasn't happened.

Herbie Hide had a similar arrangement with Riddick Bowe. Hide got a percentage of Bowe's future earnings to secure Bowe's WBO shot. In his book, Herbie said it was the most lucrative bit of business he ever did!

As for Sturm, I've got my fingers crossed that he'll have to fight Golovkin as mandated. However, like the Chavez Jr Vs Martinez I wouldn't be surprised if palms are greased to avoid it.

Martin Murray's opponent has been named mate it's a French guy called Karim Achour.
Sturm is in the box seat, even though the fight was a draw.
Having pushed him so close, Sturm will not want a repitition.
Martin has put himself in the "who wants him" camp after that performance.
Newprt Daz has got it right.
That's how his camp operate like it or lump it.

I dont think he was even considered as an opponent after the first fight, dont think they heard anything from the sturm camp, despite numerous press releases stating that Murray would happily go back to germany for the re-match. Its a shame the Chavez Jr fight didnt come off as that would have been a cracking fight imo. The fight on the 16th is basically a keep busy fight. Although he cant afford to overlook him, it should be a routine win. Think they'll be lining up a big fight towards the end of summer. Maybe September. And from what iv gathered on twitter and other things Murray wants Macklin and vice-versa

That's the one being talked about mate.
Think it all depends on Macklin - and who he is contracted to at the time !
Think he's been through most trainers and Promotors !

how is that even allowed?
that's quite ridiculous!

as for the murray vs macklin fight. that's the domestic fight i'd most like to see. (although either of the 2 fighting barker would do....)

I had the pleasure to have 1 of the best seats in the house and Sturm was getting hit with some good shots of Murray and this was a better prepared Sturm physically and sharp like a mach 3.
Straight after the bout he was icing his face and some serious welts and bruising was building up fast (not saying that wins him the bout be the shots were damaging more than you could notice on TV) i am not surprised he didnt jump straight back in a rematch and avoided Martin like the plague.
Macklin was offered a rematch with Sturm and yes might of been with ridicolous terms but Martin was treated like a stalker without all calls going unanswered they might aswell of got an injunction out on him they were avoiding him that much

Been hearing that Macklin has now refused to fight martin as the Hattons offer wasn't good enough. After all his chatting shit on twitter how he sees Martin and Darren Barker as good warm up fights, he's shit out completely, if he thought he would beat him so easy then why is he moaning, I cant see there offer being that bad seen as martin is keen for the fight and it would be guaranteed to sell well. He's the same as always, smug as fornicate thinks the boxing world owes him something all because he's had hard fights. He's lost his last 2 so id like to see what he thinks he's worth.
I think it dawned on him that should he be beat a 3rd time in a row his value would be a lot lower, and there is a very real possibility of it happening with Martin.

"refused to fight Murray"

That's an interesting perspective.

Chap A rings Chap B

Chap A : would your Matt fancy a dance with our Martin?

Chap B : sure no problem I know he fancies it. Make us an offer and I see where we go from there.

Chap A : sounds good. How about £xx

Chap B : hhmmmm, sounds pretty low that. Especially as we can fight AN Other fighter for £x&y! By the way that fight will be on US TV, what network you with now?

All well and good but you and i both know if this was announced tomorow without a tv date sky would pick it up as a one-off. I think Macklins on the slide and he knows it. Plus hes a arrogant fuckwit, Good to watch as he's very often in entertaining fights, but still a fuckwit.

Let me assure you that your assumption is incorrect - threefold actually.

No SKY, not arrogant and certainly not a fuckwit. :)

I think Murray's style plays right in Mackilns hands truth be told. Naturally they both are pressure fighters, but Macklin has more skill and fire power at his disposal, not to mention more top level experience. I can see Macklin winning by clear decision or late stoppage here.

Thing is Slap, Macklin has been giving it loads to Murray. You'd think if he was that confident of destroying Murray like he makes out he wants to, then he'd take the fight to prove the point.

If Macklin loses his next fight and Murray keeps progressing, you can bet your mortgage Macklin will be shouting off to get a fight outta' Murray.

Yes and if it's the best thing to do at the tome I'm sure he will.

The issue is that Hatton are slabbering about Macklin 'pulling out' of a fight that was never made.

If the money was right then the fight would be on. Macklin doesn't need to prove a point to Murray at a cut price discount, especially when there are more lucrative high profile fights on the table for him. I know that won't satisfy the baying mob on here but that's the reality. He would be a 'fuckwit' to do otherwise, as pointed out previously, that ain't the case.

Sturm clearly beat Murray, no point in a rematch.

Macklin/Murray should be made but Murray clearly wants no part of Macklin understandably, Macklin would pretty much dominate him.

Murray vs Macklin would have to be abroad as he doesn't have a British License anymore

You don't need a British licence to fight in the UK.

Murray gave a decent account of himself, but got a generous draw, considering he was away from home.

We need to see Murray, Macklin and Barker right eachother, it takes the pizz.

Lets not forget that the first fight was a bit of stinker.

Regardless of how good Adam Smith told us it was.

Well since it hattons who are trying to sort the fight and murrays with them I think that's self explanatory, it's macklin who won't sign, so hw can u say Murray doesn't fancy it? Macklin started bein the mouthy one over twitter saying he wanted it then backs out claiming the offer wasnt good enough.

Sturm just needs to lose that belt now he realises how vulnerable he is. He will hold it hostage and hold it hostage for as long as he can and make as much money as he can. Which makes financial sense now that he promotes himself but its not good for the division. I would rather British and Irish middleweights square off against each other. There are some very good fights to be made.
