Froch V Benn

Post by thebinman »

After last nights sensational performance, how do you think Benn pre-McClellan would pan out? Can see Benn - the naturally smaller man - being bossed and then possibly stopped? Benn doesnt have the power to really dissuade The Cobra.

Despite having a better run of opponents I think if Froch were to fight Collins, Eubank, Benn, Calzaghe I think the only one he would beat would be Collins.

Perhaps I was a tad hasty but Froch has an iron chin, and as we all know Benn's power never really carried to super middle...

...I take it back. But I dont think Benn would just walk through and stop his man in a way that - if Froch put on last nights performance - Froch might do to Benn. Hey, there are even similarities between Benns and Bute style.

Froch was hurt last night by Bute, so he could be hurt by Benn. Benn had plenty of power at SMW. It would be very interesting to see what would happen if Benn was hurt on the ropes and Froch was as wide open as he was last night. Benn did a lot of damage when he was on the ropes.

I don't know who would win that fight.

Think I watched a different bout Keith though I agree that Carl and his wide punches up from the hips would be very very risky against a hitter like Benn; whhho must have hit at least as hard as Kesler.

Carl said afterwards that Bute hurt him and he nearly went down.

I saw the interviews after the bout and can't remember Froch saying that though accept that if you say he said it then he did; (have to say though that that I saw Carl buzzed nce or twice but not hard enough for even a step back, never mind a knock down).

I thought he looked stunned twice, but came back brilliantly. I watched and listened to all the interviews, so I can't remember which one it was. BBC maybe?

Benn punched horrifically harder than Kessler or Bute.

One thing you can bank on is that the fight would be hugely exciting.

Benn certainly would have the power to make Froch think & hurt him, but I think that the Cobra would eventually break Benn's heart with his relentlessness & titanium chin.

Benn would certainly have his moments & would probably take an early lead due to his superior speed, but I could see Froch rallying back & eventually stopping Benn late on.

I congratulate u on your excellente taste in matchups, this surely would be a fight to surpass benn-eubanks.

But  u dont think Benn has the power to dissuade Froch. Trust me Benn even at 168 had the power to kayo any active 168 lber today. But Froch also has the style and skill to beat Benn and stop him. Hard to predict. On the one hand Benn was so ferocious, had that fast handspeed and power and bob weave defence, and on the other i can also see Froch bullying him as Collins did in spurts and stopping him equally by pushing forward and by stepping back and countering him sending benns dreadlocks flipping around in the air.

Palooka needs to step up his spelling skills if he wants to "step up to the plate" and express his views on this forum. What kind of example is he/she setting to the children who visit this site. Spelling, like grammar, matters. As does pronouncing words, like Yosemite, correctly matters. By the way I am a pedant, not a plank. :shame:

What's your evidence for that at Super-Middle?
Benn is up there as one of my favourite ever fighters, but there's no way he had the same explosive power at super-middle as he did at middle. He still had heavy hands, but to talk about hitting 'horrifically harder' than Kessler at super-middle just isn't borne out by the facts.

Froch wins this by late stoppage. He might ship a few, but he would eventually just grind Benn down.

As much as everyone on here loves Benn, and as much as he was a warrior, we are talking about a guy who feasted on bums for most of his tenure at 168 (Nardiello? Daniel Perez? Lou Gent?? Please). Bearing in mind the Gman fight should have ended in the first round, his win in the second Eubank fight (and yes, he did win) was his only other real good result.

I'm not even sure Benn would have beaten Arthur Abraham.

In fairness, Giminez and Perez for last min subs for Van Horn and Little.

Galvano was certainly no slouch, Piper was a career lightheavy and Gent a career cruiser - Froch won't go near N Clev or Enzo M and Benn was a MIDDLE! Wharton was predicted to beat him remember, as were Eubank (II) and McClellan.

In his middle days, Barkley and DeWitt were predicted to beat him. Sims had never been down, let alone out. Why not mention DeWitt? He gave Tommy Hearns a pretty even fight and beat Matthew Hilton in the fight before Benn.

This seems to be just ridiculous grasping at straws. As we all know anyone can be built up like you do, but the bottom line is these guys were not nearly up to the level of Froch's competition. And I'm not even talking about Benn's middleweight days.

I would probably take about 8 opponents of Froch's to beat Benn.

lol. Do you honestly think Froch isn't going to be fighting these scrubs because he is running scared of them? They are meaningless contests and Froch is only interested in real fights...

Kessler and Ward would beat Benn. Dirrell wouldn't contain him, and Pascal and would be brutalized.
