Chauncy Welliver - School Me

Post by Lilo »

Hello boxrec(ers), I have been sent here as there is a apparently a high standard of poster on here i.e. no arseholes.

Having moved to Hong Kong 10 months ago, I haven't seen any live boxing since Haye/Klitschko. All that ends this month when I see Chauncy Welliver v Sherman Williams in Macau.

So guys, school me on Welliver and Williams. :box:

Not sure why you've asked this question on the British forum? A fight between 2 Americans (one of which is a New Zealand resident) fighting in Macau. I've seen Welliver fight a few times in N.Z, the last of which in January he seemed rather fortunate to win. He hasn't really got a crowd pleasing style but is effective, I think he'll have too much for Williams. Maybe you should ask for this to be moved to the Current scene or even the Aussie and Pacific board Chauncy himself post's in both forums. Samoan Heavyweight Lawrence Tauasa will probably be on the bill as he lives in Hong Kong, He fought in Kowloon only a few weeks ago.

Welliver is durable and has a good workrate, but is horribly feather fisted (check his record for evidence of this).
Williams is a C level journeyman who's lost to every half decent fighter he's faced. He's not much worse than Welliver though.
I predict Welliver by UD, probably a 3-4 round margin.

Also, I know you said you wanted to avoid the idiots but Welliver himself posts on East Side Boxing and there are several guys on there who can give you an honest analysis of him. Watch out for a chap named MessrStick though who is a personal friend of Welliver and hypes him up to a laughable extent (he makes YouTube videos about him and everything) :geek2:

I remember a thread on ESB (in the Classic section I think) where this bloke was going mad over the disgusting condition of modern heavyweights, with particular regard to Wellivers condition in the Solis fight. He was calling him every name under the sun calling him an absolute disgrace and a "f**king fat slob" etc. In pops Welliver into the thread and calls him out on it. Took it really well to be fair to him and tried to give a decent reason to why he was in that condition and how he hoped to have put those days behind him.

I haven't actually seen him since he shifted a fair bit of weight so would be interested to see how he is looking now. Thought he showed glimpses of a decent skillset against Solis despite the flab.
