"90 % of fighters in the USA on PED's". Britain ?

Post by safeerah »

How many fighters are cheating by taking drugs Ped's, Steroids, weight loss drugs ect, many high profile people from the boxing industry have recently expressed concerns e.g Emanuel Steward, he as in the past indicated that he believes Britain is one of the worst affected and that 90% of fighters in the USA are on PED's, a lot of fighters in this country commented that they have never been drug tested, so what is happening ? My fighter Nasser Al Harbi recently fought in Italy and Nasser was tested along with his opponent Della Rosa by the drug testers, we was told that in Italy they do it for every contest, in Britain Nasser has been a pro for over 4 years and never been tested once, I know other pro's who never been tested as well. Are we on a level playing ground over here ? The War Machine has now lifted the lid in his interview with Boxrec about the scale of drug abuse in his circles.

We are in Recession, people need money, for people at the top there is money to be made and now we have lot of people coming form unlicensed boxing into the sport, it could get worse, sometimes even in sparring around the country you can tell the difference in strength and power, but you can't prove anything, the more people taking drugs, the more who will be tempted, just to level things out, wrong in my opinion, morally and health wise.

Very interesting point. I know of a couple of who fit the criteria.

Shame that we come on to a boxing forum these days and the main topics are about doping.

Who is control of doing the tests? BBBofC?

People need to step the fvck up.

The pharmaceutical industry would absolutely love the sporting world to lift their bans on performance enhancing drugs. They've seen how the supplement business is a license to print money, with every man jack thinking that by spending £30 on a tub of protein powder every three weeks and doing 20 press-ups every time he's had a wank he'll turn into an Adonis, and are slavering to get a piece of the action. A lot of the noise out there at the moment is at that industry's discreet behest.

That is your opinion ! But to be honest Emanuel Steward is one of the most sucessful trainers of all time and has been in the industry many years, seen it all, done it all, with all due respect his opinion carries much more weight, he has also done trainer classes over here, so he knows the seen well, the fact that Warmachine was caught and has insinuated that there are many others, carries some weight also, most people try to lie and say they did not know they had been taking drugs or it must have been other things, if he knew what he was doing then surely other people around him knew, that wden's the web.

No wonder I've made no gains, I've been having 20 wanks for every 1 press-up.

My grip is astonishing though.

By the way since you printed 90% of fighters are on PED's about 16 times, another 12,000 people now believe 90% of are fighters are on PED's. Oh shit ! now I have printed it, now another 750 people now believe, this has to stop, now !

Never met him myself, but sometimes you can be disapointed when you meet high profile people, I guess we expect to much from them, when in reality they are just ordinary folk, all I know is his record speaks for it's self, many world champions, trainer, manager, boxing expert ect.. He did lose a bit of face with the defeats of Lenox Lewis and Naseem Hamed do to lack of conditioning, I would not say he was a yes man but he does sell himself to the highest bidder.

Blimey, times must be getting hard, usually the board pays, but the board can't afford to pay.

Posts: 604 I have been listening to Gabriel Montoya's interview with Bunce Boxing Hour tonight and it was interesting to learn more about the different types of drug tests that are occurring in the US (albeit inconsistently).

VADA tests are apparently extremely thorough and focused tests that look in details for drugs whereas the NSAC is a more common test but it is not as effective.

I learned from Montoya tonight that the Commission's in New York and Nevada allow 50% more testosterone in the your system that any other state or place in the world. That seems crazy. Montoya went on to state that he believes there is a level of complicity in this problem with Commissions. There are estimations that PEDS are so common that up to 90% of boxers are using them in the US, according to Montoya (he cited Victor Conte as the source for that stat).

This is nuts. I wonder how effective are the tests in the UK, how often are they done and what can be learned from the recent cases in the States?

There is only one Tommy Hearns and most likely will never be another, even his son could emulate him.

The difference between VADA testing and the athletic commissions testing is that Vada uses carbon isotope ratio testing which is a more sophisticated testing method in contrast to the testosterone/epitestosterone method used by athletic commissions. CIR testing can tell the difference between naturally occuring tesosterone in the body and synthetic testosterone which is made in a lab. Im not sure the T/E testing can do that, could be wrong though.

what makes you assume that boxers coming from the unlicensed circuit are more likely to be using peds ?

youll likely find most guys turning pro , no matter what background they are from , will assume they will be drug tested randomly , its only this larry O situation that has made people notice otherwise .

i believe the problem will now be addressed in some way or other, so you need not worry about boxers coming from the unlicensed scene any more so than those coming from the amateurs in my opinion .

Firstly it was drugs in general, not just PED's, plus I know of people in the unlicensed scene who take drugs, secondly there are various stores around my city and all other cities that supply to the industry not only legal but illegal as well, mostly to body builders, unlicensed circuit and MMA, you must be living in cave not to notice, I took a fighter to fight for a Heavyweight K1 championship belt in Dubai, I trained him for the fight, but most times he never turned up for the gym, because of his lack of effort in training and the fact he was fighting a big hitter, I walked out on him and refused to train him or be in his corner in Dubai, but he came looking for me and said he would buckle down and catch up, 3 weeks before his fight I had to leave to go to Dubai for Nasser Al Harbi's WBC fight, so arranged for him to finish his training with a top martial arts trainer and join me in Dubai later, I found out he was missing sessions again, when he got to dubai I found out he offered performance enhancing drugs for the fight, I told him in no uncertain terms not to touch them and if he bought them I would report him and not work with him, he took my advice, had a war with his opponent, where they both rocked each other several times, then later he got ko'd by a head kick when he started to tire due to his missed sessions, he quit the industry later, not dedicated enough, though talented, I heard that he went into weight lifting and has has some success, but the word on the street is he is on the stuff. Where do you get this random drug testing ? no such thing, only major titles have drug testing. How many of your unlicensed fighters have been drug tested ? I rest my case.

Where do you get this random drug testing ? no such thing, only major titles have drug testing. How many of your unlicensed fighters have been drug tested ? I rest my case.

you have completely missed my point .

when a boxer turns pro , wether its from amateur , unlicensed , kickboxing or whatever , they boxer will believe they will be randomly tested , or at least would have until all this larry o case .

im not saying as you seem to think that they are already drug tested or anything of the sort , just that the noises the board make amongst other things will make them assume they will be tested .

answer this , did you expect nasser to have been randomly tested by this point in his career before he went pro ?

and the same question to any other pro boxer on here , i almost guarantee that the vast majority of boxers will have assumed they would have been randomly tested .

so my point being it matters not what background they have come from , cant assume that because more boxers are coming from the unlicensed circuit that drugs will be worse in the pros ,as they enter the pros expecting to be randomly tested .

all your doing is stereotyping ,

most of those who turn pro via the unlicensed circuit are just as dedicated tot he sport as those who came from an amateur background , chances are they just came into the sport later or had to contend with a specific set of circumstances .

the main difference is that those in the unlicensed circuit who are on drugs are more open about it than those in the pro game , for obvious reasons

Damian Hucker I think you seem to be on a mission to defend anything deemed as negative about the unlicensed circuit why ? I believe you are trying to get into Professional boxing, so why ? Is it to justify your partisipation in the Unlicensed industry ? It is quite obvious that there will be more risk of drug taking in the unlicensed Industry as apposed to the Pro industry, The Amatuer Industry far less because it is unpaid and Olympic style testing is used at the higher levels. Why don't you pay for drug testers at your unlicensed shows, you will shocked by some of the results. In the pros even if you take medication, it is wise to inform the the official. Anywhere where there is money to be made and no board or federation, it is human nature that people will try to cheat, not saying it is not happening in the pros, it is, but more so in the unlicensed Industry.

i dont refute that it happens in unlicensed boxing , as i already said in unlicensed its done openly , but in the pros those unlicensed boxers will assume they will be randomly tested at some point in my opinion , its nothing to do with defending unlicensed boxing , its understanding the mindset of any young boxer turning pro regardless of back ground .

heres a question though saf , wether it be you or anyone else that answers ,

would it not be possible to have the board inspector of a show select a random boxer per show to attend a drug test at a specific place time and date , 1 from each event and test them all together , id imagine that will be cheaper than testing each individual seperately at each show due to logistics etc and for the promotor and the board to cover this cost between them to make it fair to all , by say maybe raising the board tax a small amount or something .

i know we dont want to add more costs to a promotor in what already can cost too much to do anything with but something has to be done , maybe not every show should have a test , maybe just one boxer per week gets tested at random throughout the uk , i dont know , maybe there could be some sort of subsidiary where the boxer pays for his test but receives it back if he passes the test etc etc

If most boxers are taking performance enhancing drugs then it's not cheating.

Damian Hucker : I agree it would be a good idea, the guilty parties would not know when or where, but it is a case costs, the costs for drug testing are scandalous and the board does not have as much money as other governing bodies around the world, passing it on to the promoters would tip them over the edge and kill small hall promotions, the boxers don't earn enough as it is, that's why they only test for major titles, Italy, I was told they test each show, there Governing body has a lot of money apparantly, Nasser was tested for the first time in Italy over the weekend. Maybe stopping all supliments and drawing a line may help, so there is no grey areas, because after all anything you can get in legal supliments you can get through natural foods.

@Gabriel_Montoya: Sources tell me Antonio Tarver tested positive for a banned substance in his June 2 fight with Lateef Kayode. #boxing
