Is all professional sport corrupted to a substantial degree?

Post by lefty »

With all this stuff with Larry and also Peterson, Berto and now Tarver testing positive and the evident doping issues in athletics and cycling and then you have the spot fixing with the pakistani cricket team, is professional sport dirty in one way or another generally or do you believe its just a minority? I know people will argue that its only a few so you cant tarnish the majority but is this just the tip of the iceberg and more of a case of people not being caught rather than it not actually occuring?

I think that anything you can gamble on is open to corruption. Some sports are suffer from it far less however boxing, being such an objective sport, is open to all kindsof rigging/fixing.

It's choc full of people trying to get one over on everyone else.

Promoters, fighters, you name it.

And not in a 'sporting' approach either.

At the risk of trying to distill it to a soundbite, professional sport is a business, and in any business you are going to get individuals and companies who will try and get a competitive advantage by any means necessary. That's why having a robust framework in the form of things like governing bodies is so important.

Lets face it, people are more than happy to cheat at sports when there's no money on the line, so when you factor in the huge sums involved in the professional ranks it's pretty obvious.
