I heard they are going to do away with headgear for the open adults. Has anyone else heard that?
I heard it may take effect Jan 1st.
amateur opens to get rid of head gear?
Re: amateur opens to get rid of head gear?
I've got a chance to speak about head gear with Dr. Wu during an interview for my newspaper "Bulgaria Today" and he said that they are doing now a huge medical research, based on the two seasons of WSB and the next one for the possible damage of fighting without head guard.
His words were "After 2-3 seasons of WSB. when we will have the data, we will be able to make the conslusions if boxing without head gear is safe. If everything is ok, the boxers will fight without head protectors at Rio Olympics."

My question is if they removed the headgear, will they still stop a fight immediately if a boxer gets cut? I abhor that rule in Am Boxing.

Wu wants to standardise APB,WSB and Amateur boxing with the same rules and that will mean no headguards-but as pointed out he will wait on medical reports.
