Dereck Chisora’s preparations for his heavyweight grudge fight with David Haye are in disarray after he was attacked by his own coach.
The 28-year-old Londoner will settle his differences with Haye at Upton Park on July 14, four months after the pair came to blows at a press conference in Munich.
But Chisora may have to complete his training without long-term mentor Don Charles who revealed he lashed out after his fighter asked him to remove his headgear.
I won’t go into the details as to why he wanted his head gear off,’ Charles told allegedly. ‘There’s a way to tell someone something and it’s called respect.
‘I’m not a nutter. He asked me to take his head gear off and I physically attacked him.
‘It’s the worst thing that’s happened since I’ve been with him and I’ve been with him for 10 years; I’m like a father to him.
‘There is no father around, he’s the man in his house so he finds it very hard to take instructions from another man. There is definitely a problem there.
‘I regret attacking him because you should never put your hands on someone but I’m a human being with emotions so don’t disrespect me.
‘I will not tolerate it. My mother and father don’t talk to me like that and certainly not someone I’ve helped for 10 years to become the boxer he is.’
With just over two weeks until the talking stops, Charles remains in the dark as to whether he will work with Chisora again.
‘I don’t know if we will rekindle it,’ he added. ‘He employs me to train him as does his manager [allegedly] so it’s up to them if I’m fired or not.’

It get's from bad to worst, will this fight happen before Chesora does someting silly or will him and Haye end up brawling on the street.
Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
Made for tv. Some sloppy journalist watched 'behind the ropes' last night and now it's 'news'?
This would have happened several weeks ago. If at all.
Don't believe it.

Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
Charles is a fruit cake, he even wants to fight Haye himself, if you look at Charles pro record on boxrec its plain to see that he is/was completely shite!!
Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
I think thats a bit unfair mate, whenever ive watched him in interviews he comes across as a nice fella.rhino222 wrote:Charles is a fruit cake, he even wants to fight Haye himself, if you look at Charles pro record on boxrec its plain to see that he is/was completely shite!!

I wouldn't be surprised if this is just another publicity stunt. This whole promotion has operated under the mantra that there's no such thing as bad publicity. Probably trying to gain a few extra subs to Boxn@tion or flog extra tickets.

i think he did try fight him? in munich am sure he landed a couple torhino222 wrote:Charles is a fruit cake, he even wants to fight Haye himself, if you look at Charles pro record on boxrec its plain to see that he is/was completely shite!!

I wouldn't walk to bottom of the road to see Haye v Chisora. Bloody tools the pair of 'em.
And no I wouldn't say that to their faces.

Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
Attacked by his own trainer, I wouldn't be surprised if this was genuine. Haye must be thinking this is just getting better for him. £3.5million to fight chisora isn't he getting?
No disrespect but Chisora is just a more agile Mcdermott, Haye should just run around the ring and pick him off.

Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
Chesora is a real Jeckle and Hyde character, sometimes he is funny and friendly, then he does something out of order. He is like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you are gonner get Lol.

Great money if true.

Does anyone else get the feeling this is some kind of weird master plan to take haye of his game plan ? I just feel something's going to happen between chisora and Charles close to the fight.leftysreturn wrote:Its all sorted now apparantly anyway http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/157873.html#

Could be the case....but think about it, Charles lashes out over Chisora asking to remove his headguard?! It's all so stupid it has to be true. If they were concoting a story for the press or to put Haye off then surely you would come up with something that sounds reasonable? It's so stupid it has to be true......"Don, take my friggin guard off wud yah"
Don "Don't disrespect me, I've been a father figure to you boy, have some of this"
These are the facts: Haye is too atheltic, too clever and whether you like him or not, Booth knows his boxing so will have a good game plan. Chisora has to use most of this camp to get into shape and fit. Charles seems like a nice guy but is not at the cutting edge of the sport in any way. Don't get me wrong, Chisora is hard as nails and has a great chin, but he doesn't posses a massive punch or have great hand speed.
Haye will break him down over time, but I think he has learnt from his Thompson days and will keep his chin down. Chisora wants to take him to the latter rounds to try and make it a messy fight on the ropes. It's a fight for David to lose not for Chisora to win.
I see Haye stopping Chisora near the end rounds 10/11.
Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
If the fight gets to 11 rounds Haye will be physically spent whereas Dereck will be still fit and firing.
As for Don Charles, he's a great guy who has a lot of emotional investment in his top fighter. They've kissed and made up.

I think Haye has learnt from the past mistakes about shooting his load in the early rounds. He will still be too much for Chisora even at the latter stages. Chisora has a good engine granted but do you really think he will beat haye if it goes late?

Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
The Booth masterplan is always the same thing - pose and throw as few punches as possible and try steal a razor thin decision.
Haye has never fought a heavyweight who will pressure him continuously ala Chisora. He will be knackered and stopped in the second half. In my opinion.

Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
A heavyweight who pressures a quick hard puncher who's fast on his feet like haye is surely asking for trouble, if haye hits him with everything and dont phase him it could be a different story, but I believe hayes accuracy will make a brave chisora pulled out by his trainer by round 9loaded_gloves wrote:The Booth masterplan is always the same thing - pose and throw as few punches as possible and try steal a razor thin decision.

Think you may be right here. Charles may even tag himself in towards the 2nd half..............
Re: Derek Chesora is attacked by his trainer Don Charles
just watched that stupid programme. 24/7 is plastic and staged, but this programme was a whole new level of shite. i hope all concerned in this fight get struck with lightning, cos they are all shady, bent , undesirable, hypocritical, or just plain greedy. whole thing is just a dumbed down summary of all that is crap about boxing. i thought haye and his trainer were better than this, but alas, they will obviously participate in anything that pays money. FW rent boys, with buncey and danny d as the fluffers.
