Will SKY Sports drop Amir Khan?

Post by chad »

SKY and Khan agreed a 3 fight deal back in November 2011. I remember comments from Khan at that time suggesting he would like to face Mayweather within 3 to 4 fights. I'm sure that would have been the dream scenario for SKY when the deal was originally agreed. So far Khan has lost 2 of his 3 fights on SKY and a fight with Mayweather seems a long, long way off.

SKY have spent a lot of money on Khan with the "Behind The Rope" series and general big fight build up for both Peterson and Garcia. Oh and all the money they wasted on promo material for Khan Vs. Peterson II.

Seeing Maloney and Hatton have been dropped, do you think SKY will pull the deal they have with Khan too and invest the money in their deal with Matchroom instead?

Their matchroom contract gives them minimal outlay for return so I would expect that the contract would just expand naturally to fill any holes that Maloney et al leave.

I can sort of agree with what they've done, insofar as tried to grab the biggest "names" in British boxing that are already world class or on the cusp of breaking through.

Froch, Haye, Khan, Brook, Price etc.

If Brook had lost last week they might now be on a slightly dodgy wicket as I'm not sure where both Price and Haye stand with SKY at the moment.

Such is the nature of boxing though, titles come and go.

Khan kept Dutch-auctioning his fights between ITV (Malignaggi) Primetime (Judah) and Sky (Peterson)

They'll be 'all business' with team khan. In other words take it or leave it style offers I imagine.

Yeah it was, was live from memory but on at a slighty odd time, around 1am rather than the usual 4-5am? Or maybe that's when the broadcast started?
