KHAN - some people should be ashamed

Post by Wrists »

Funny thing happened I watched a British sportsman lose on Sunday morning and a large amount of Brits were happy with the result. That almost never happens.........

Now I realise that as Brits we always get behind our sportsman, lets face it no-one wanted Roger Federer to beat Andy Murray did they?? I mean we all love Andy Murray because he doesn't smile that much and made an innocent comment years ago about the England football team, personally I think that at the time as an 18 year old he should have known better...........

I mean take that horrible Amir for instance, he should have said No to that Andreas Kotelnik fight (lets face it all of us would) in favour of an 8 rounder against Sid Razak and the Dagenam and Goresbrook leisure centre, you see it would have been better for his development and lets face it a shot in the arm for the common man. How dare he win a silver medal at 17 (the cheek of it) and then decide to fight the best at his weight. Shocking behaviour.

Listen, some of the crap on here is cringeworthy, I think people need to long look at themselves if they continue to be harsh with Amir. Jealousy is a horrible trait to have, seemingly loads on here have it in droves.

What I saw was a Brit being soundly beaten and I felt sad. I suggest if you felt the opposite you should be ashamed of yourself.

I think amir does a lot of things to alienate himself from boxing fans. Says some stupid things on twitter and in the press for example but on a personal level he's extremely pleasant and in the ring he has the type of character you very rarely see. The guy is a credit to British boxing and very talented.

I'm not British; should I feel ashamed if I wasn't sad that he lost?

How should a British-American feel?

people have the right to like and dislike whoever they please.

R u saying we should "like" amir just cos hes british then?

He comes across and spoilt obnoxious and a little bit dim, thats why most dont like him. and theres also the fact he was hyped and overated as a boxer that prob irked a few as well.

As for "fighting the best in his division", he didnt even clean up domestically b4 claiming he could beat floyd mayweather over four rounds. That hardly makes genuine fans warm to him.

I don't like people speaking in 3rd person. Audrey Harrison, Amir Khan and even Ricky Hatton used to annoy me when he did it.

I don't dislike Khan though. Just don't think he's all that good. He hasn't fought one of the big boys yet. I was hoping he'd beat Garcia so maybe we'd see a fight against Bradley, Mayweather or maybe even someone like Cotto.

Problem is Amir Khan has been beaten 3 times by quite average opponents. Prescott, Peterson and Garcia are all quite far away from the real top level. Anyone with a decent dig will always have a chance against Khan. His chin isn't very good and he gives his opponent way to many opportunity to land the money shot.

I like Amir Khan and am disappointed he lost, but I'd never tell someone else who they should or should not support. Blindly following somebody because they share the same nationality isn't something I do, I can't imagine why that would make me feel ashamed.

Many people have a bigger list of fighters they would like to see lose than fighters they would like to see win, that's life, don't let it bother you so much. So some people take great pleasure in the demise of people who you happen to like, does it really deserve a high and mighty toy out of the pram topic? Have a cuppa, it's still early, everything will seem better in a short while

most people r just uninterested in the guy tbh, they recognise hes not the real deal and all the freddie roachs and conditioning coaches wont change that.

And then he says things like "Froch is just jealous ive fought the tougher opposition". I mean. Really Amir. Stop.

This was said after he beat Salita... not after he'd beaten anyone of note other than Kotelnik (in what is actually a very, very good win, but not a superstar-esque style win)

In Britain having ambition is the ultimate sin, if you're successful, have a nice house and a nice car and go abroad 3 times a year you're a flash twat.

Live in a council house, drive a 10 year old Fiesta and go to Butlins once a year you're just one of the lads.

You don't have to support someone purely based on nationality!

If it was a toss up between Khan & Murray who I disliked the most it would be Khan based on the fact Andy's crying on centre court won me over. Also he doesn't ram the Scottish flag down peoples throats like the Khans do with their Pakistan colours.

I've never experienced an atmosphere at a boxing match like I did for the Khan-McCloskey fight, the Khan supporters were nothing more than a bunch of vile racists.

And yeah he doesn't help himself with comments like that as I don't recall Naseem Hamed or Frank Bruno being white.

i disagree with that, think its a common misconception. maybe once it was like that, a knock on effect of the post war struggle, but not anymore. We are so influenced by america now.

Absoloute rubbish Amir Khan has had support untill he got far too big for his boots starting making unfair purse demands on his opponents and alienating the fans .So yes i was glad he got sparked as i always like to see justice done and i feel zero shame .I hope he learns from it and is genuinely humbled but i doubt it people around him will convince him it was a lucky punch and he will win a couple of fights against hyped up nomarks then be calling out Mayweather again .

I think you'll find its the other way around, people with money look down on the not so well off. You want to see the fuckers faces when I pull up at the golf club I'm a member at in my 52 plate van.

I wanted Federer to beat Murray. Murray is one of those well balanced types from North of the border.

Before Murray was on the scene, the media were all about how long it had been since an Englishman won Wimbledon. When Murray arrives, it`s changed to how long since a British guy won the title. Laughable really.

Most of the Scots I know from over here are really sound guys, some of my best mates are Scots. But I have seen enough of them to know that there are some seriously bitter Scots around. I recall one coming into the pub over here when England played Argentia in the 1998 world Cup, wearing an Argentina top and laughing like hell when we lost the penalty shoot out. He couldn`t understand why he was thrown out on his arse with his top ripped from his back.

As for Amir Khan, people can have their own opinion of him. For me he is a brave lad with a lot of talent. I wanted him to win, but he is not my favourute fighter by a long way.

when you go around saying danny garcia isnt in his class and "im a superstar" what do you expect people to think? people know that amir khan isnt all that and thats why we all laugh when he gets beat. he wouldnt of lasted 4 rounds with ricky hatton, arturro gatti, mickey ward, shay neary or oscar de la hoya. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE.

he gets stick for thinking he's better than he is. name me one boxer who under-rates themselves arrogance and boxers goes hand in hand it is a trait seen more in this sport than in any other IMO. i almost expect it of some people

he gets it for over-hyping himself. well it's worked as he is a far bigger selling name than froch for instance who has arguably fought bigger better names and is quite intelligent and comes across as relatively humble.
look at haye, he talked wlad into the ring, chisora being brash and mouthy has taken him for a brittish/commonwealth title loss to fury all the way to a shot at vitali and a big payday at upton park despite losing consistantly

he comes across as a little dim!
well if thats a reason to seriously dislike someone, then it's a sad day, he's a man that chose to get punched in the head for a living, you won't find many intellectuals who make that choice. derek chisora comes across as a "right thicko" but is portayed as more of a lovable rogue as a result.

i cannot speak for anyone on here personally and would never level this acusation at someone i had only spoken to over the internet, but racism does come into it with some, there are just too many people who do not like the guy and do not wish to see him succeed and in fact revel in his defeats for it to be a coincidence that he happens to also be of pakistani origin.
i can only speak for people i have met in person, but i can remember sitting with a group of people in a tea shack at work and they were slating amir on the saturday night, when he was fighting. guys who would support virtually any other brittish fighter, the following day the F1 was on and "that lewis hamilton is an arrogant little rich boy wanker" while jenson button was all that was good in the world.
of course when challenged on this it was only because of personality traits of hamilton and khan nothing to do with thier skin colour.

this is a major reason that many of khans haters exist, not all but it is a factor.

as for should you support any brittish fighter.
i'm not saying you should.
but i do.
i'm a fiercely proud scot and when it comes to football, i see it as a rivalry and like to see england lose (cue shouts of racist)
but when it comes to boxing, like many other individual sports, i back any brittish competitor. except mitchell come september

I think people need to learn from the Ricky Hatton book of how to be adored by the British public. Rick never acted like a superstar. Khan thinks (or thought) he was a superstar and acted like he was pound for pound number 1. So when he loses... people laugh...

Yep, chav is still the insult of choice. Plenty of people looking down at those in a council house with an old car
Look at the mock reality trashy TV shows where dumb people spend lots of money. People lap it up

so the guy got assaulted, his clothing ripped and stolen and tossed out in the street, in a pub in norway, for supporting the team that were playing a side he considered rivals.

aye he's the bitter one, what a bad man!

i support A.B.E.
it's nothing to do with bitterness, i work offshore, half the guys i work with are from down south, it's good banter. it's rivalry, it's what football is all about.
i'm a hearts supporter (a team from edinburgh) and i am exactly the same with hibs (the other edinburgh team), it's rivalry. there'd be something wrong with me if i wanted them to win. i fully expect the hibs fans i know to want us to lose every game we play
and as for the englishmen that say "well, i like to see scotland do well when they play" i usually think whats fornicating wrong with you man?
but thats probably down to the fact we are consistantly shite and the english don't see as being any threat or really even rivals as a result.
