Coldwell to train Khan
Theres a wisper that Dave coldwell is going to be Khans new trainer do you think this would be a good move as dave knows how to rebuild fighters, look at kell Brook and Ryan Rhodes he did good jobs with them and has also worked at the top with David haye as he was haymakers top guy there

I've just seen this post.. thanks very much but i don't really think you can go from Freddie Roach to me!!potter2481 wrote:Theres a wisper that Dave coldwell is going to be Khans new trainer do you think this would be a good move as dave knows how to rebuild fighters, look at kell Brook and Ryan Rhodes he did good jobs with them and has also worked at the top with David haye as he was haymakers top guy there
Re: Coldwell to train Khan
Anyone considered Virgil Hunter who's Andre Wards Trainer? Ward doesnt have an exciting style by any stretch of the imagination but he can fight both on the outside and on the inside! The inside being something Khan particularily needs!

Not as funny as the Gallagher rumours, imo.
There's something about Khan's inability to block an uppercut in close (& the vast gaping holes in his defence anyway) that would make me genuinely fear for his safety were he to adopt the Mancunian "style" (although I suppose you could say he's got half of it down already).

I dont think Gallagher would be a good fit for Khan myself.Datsue wrote:Not as funny as the Gallagher rumours, imo.

Re: Coldwell to train Khan
Don't be shocked if he lets Gallagher train him at short term, Gallagher trains his fighters at Khans gym, has a stable of top fighters at different weights, good sparring, Khan's home town, friends and family close by,maybe Gallagher is not the right trainer technically, but he has been successful, Khan might fed up of traveling and want to train near to home, could use Gallagher for conditioning and another trainer Emanuel Steward to come over before fight for technical work.
Re: Coldwell to train Khan
With all due respect to the guys that train under Gallagher though Saf, i dont think it is particularily good sparring! For me theres a big difference between the sparring you get at the wildcard with guys like Manny pacquaio and the sparring you get at Gallaghers gym. Most of those guys like Crolla, the Smith Brothers, the Murray brothers, etc are british level fighters and dont compare to the world class sparring you get at the wild card gym.safeerah wrote:Don't be shocked if he lets Gallagher train him at short term, Gallagher trains his fighters at Khans gym, has a stable of top fighters at different weights, good sparring, Khan's home town, friends and family close by,maybe Gallagher is not the right trainer technically, but he has been successful, Khan might fed up of traveling and want to train near to home, could use Gallagher for conditioning and another trainer Emanuel Steward to come over before fight for technical work.

Re: Coldwell to train Khan
Khan might want to "come home" but seriously that should not mean literally home.
That is a recipe for disaster - and with all the hangers on etc, well ......

Re: Coldwell to train Khan
Mayweather or Steward are surely the two stand out candidates?
Someone who can help him defend against left hooks would be useful...

Re: Coldwell to train Khan
Bullshit, Khan and Coldwell have a little beef after Khan accused Brooj of being a cokehead on twitter.
Re: Coldwell to train Khan
i reckon derren brown might do a decent job
Re: Coldwell to train Khan
Gallagher would get Khan killed.
A fighter with a weak chin should stay the f**k away from Gallagher, who's gym is racking up KO losses like nobodies business.
Dave wouldn't be the worst shout, but I think many of Khan's flaws are mental. He believes he's a lot more skilled than what he really is, the true test of someone (IMO) when you've been knocked out, and in his case suffered back to back defeats against opponents that, frankly, aren't anything special is to realise your shortcomings, what's going wrong and to make moves to put them right.
Khan hadn't learned the lessons from the Peterson defeat, judging from the leaked sparring footage - being hit with hard counters by an amateur for Christ's sake. What amateurs ever punch with their opponent? Usually once they're in reach it's mutual hugging until the ref breaks them up.... and there was lots of pushing.
In the Garcia fight it was more poor foot placement and getting himself out of position and in to harm's way. Like other Roach fighters Khan's back hand guard drops when he throws more than one punch he's wide open to the looping left hand, as much as Manny is to the short right hand, albeit for slightly different reasons.

Re: Coldwell to train Khan
Beyond the fight-related arguments, I just couldn't see Khan and Joe seeing eye to eye if they worked together regularly. If Mr Jeffries felt that Joe was too thinly spread, it doesn't bode well for a relationship with Khan. Its one thing playing second fiddle to Pacman, but....

Was Khan even "second" in line at Wildcard? I'm not sure that he was actually ahead of Chavez...JamesH wrote:Beyond the fight-related arguments, I just couldn't see Khan and Joe seeing eye to eye if they worked together regularly.
