Glad to see my old amature gym mate perko has finally turned pro!!
I think he (former amature bronze world medalist) will take to the pros like a duck to water, signed with FM and will make his debut on Price V Audley undercard

This one is from Liverpool and was one of our top amateurs a few years ago.

Could be good from a fans perspective if he is getting on a bit as that would mean he will be fast-tracked which will mean that he matched harder & in better fights earlier than normal.
On another note I thought Maloney had done signing new fighters & was letting his stable gradually reduce?

Perkins, a World Championship and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, was at the heart of this invasion which saw Liverpool lads find a home on podiums across the globe.
But where his contemporaries progressed into the professional side of the sport Perkins, scorned by rough decisions and disappointment, developed a bitter sweet relationship with boxing, leaving it behind.
After failing to make it to the Olympics in Beijing four years ago, Perkins bowed out of the ring only to make a surprising comeback in the ABA Championships in 2010.
Another set-back, this time in the semi-finals to Hosea Burton, meant the Kirkdale ABC boxer looked like he was done with it for good.
But recently something has stirred inside of him.
“I’ve got that bug back,” he said.
Perkins acknowledges the progression of his old amateur colleagues – good friend David Price for example – has influenced his decision but the southpaw was struggling to pin point the main reason for wanting to go pro; saying he just feels it is right.
And on October 13 at the ECHO Arena, Perkins is scheduled to test that judgement for the very first time.
“I just had a change of heart,” Perkins added.
“I look at the people I came through the amateurs with, doing well in the pros and think I could do that as well.
“I’m hungry for it and want it so much. I’ve still got a lot to prove.”
For a two time ABA champion as well as World and Commonwealth medallist, that is a serious statement of intent.
“I was unlucky for the Olympics a couple of times and have been really, really close,” he explained.
“I just want to give the pros 100% and at least when I’m 50 I can look back and say I tried it. I don’t want to be that age and wonder and wish I’d done it.”
Perkins has signed all the necessary contracts and just needs to pass next week’s medical to get his career up and running.
The 30-year-old is scheduled to make his debut on the undercard of Price’s British heavyweight title defence against Audley Harrison this autumn and plans to campaign at middleweight.
“I could ping half of these middleweights now,” he declared.
“I believe I could beat the top middleweights in this country over the shorter rounds, right now, but need the experience and rounds to be able to do it over the longer distance.
“I just plan to be busy, busy, busy and get loads of fights.
“When I get something in my head I am focused and determined to do it.
“It is three weeks since I made the decision and already my life has changed.
“I can’t wait to get back in that ring again. I feel like I’m 21 again.”
Franny Smith is expected to be the man in his corner on fight night.

Be good to see him in the pro's although its going to be hard for him because of his age, he will have to step up quite early on.

Saying the right things in that interview and 30 isn't all that old up at middleweight if he's fresh from the past couple of years break. Good luck to him.

Neil has said before that he lost heart in boxing, so will he stick at the pro's if he isn't that busy with fights?

He has turned pro approximately 7-8 years too late from a fans perspective in the early to middle part of the last decade he was riding high as an amateur. I think he did have some problems with his daughter? Or a member of his family had a rare heart condition and he lost a bit of faith in boxing and drifted away from it.
I hope he has a good crack of the whip and better late than never. Obviously a very talented guy. Sometimes fate can conspire against you in these things so its good he is having a go and I wish all the best to him.

Yes have to agree, if he hadn't of turned pro I'm sure he would of lived to regret it.
