20 greatest olympians on ITV

Post by el_grande_mauro_mina »

No Terry Spinks? No Chris Finnegan and you might laugh but Audley was the biggest story in 2000.

The media bigwigs HATE boxing that much - if it isn't golf then they don't give a shit. I remember when Sir Henry Cooper died - he got 5 minutes on the BBC world service whilst Sevvy Ballesteros got 7 bloody hours. :shame:

There was a thread on here once about athletes who we felt might've been good at boxing. I didn't get around to mentioning Daley Thompson. Can't say what his chin would've been like, but I reckon he would've had everything else covered at cruiser.

If it makes you feel any better I wouldn't recognise Sevvy Ballesteros now if somebody showed me a photo of him. I know next to nothing about golf.

He may as well have been, for all I knew. I'd not heard of him until he died.

I didn't see this program, so cannot comment.

There was a program last week about the top 100 Olympic moments and Cassius Clay winning the Gold medal was number 1.

I actually disagreed with this - yes, in hindsight after his illustrious pro career he was one of the best and most recognisable sports stars ever in the world, but in isolation him winning the gold medal can surely not be regarded as the best moment when you consider the amount of world records that have been broken over the years.

Just one example would be Michael Phelps who won 8 swimming gold medals in one Olympics, and won them all by breaking 8 world record times.
