Boxing on the 8th Sept at former top venue Birmingham

The Digbeth Civic Hall, birmingham was once regarded as the best boxing venue in the country many years ago, very much like the York Hall is to day, with balconies over looking the ring and not a bad seat in the house, it had a great atmosphere, they had some great shows there, now it is called the HMV Institute digbeth and on the 8th of September boxing comes back there with a great show and with some of Birmingham's top talent, including : Newly World ranked Nasser Al Harbi, British title challenger Max Maxwell, upset king Terry Caruthers, Handsome Dave Egan, Calum Cooper, Sulivan Mason, Graig Cunningham and former Team GB Amateur Tommy Langford. Should be an explosive night of entertainment.

With just 3 weeks to go this will hardly appeal to the neutral boxing fan - I gues that the promoters are relying on the home boxers selling tickets to family and their mates ?

Yeh Chris truman ha been added to the bill.Just a grass roots show to get local talent a chance to fight at home.To be honest unless you have a big title fight most of these shows end up being sold on what the boxers and promoter sells very hard to get general public interested in 4 and 6 rounders.

It seems to me that boxing has got itself into a "chicken and egg" situation - eg. all boxers want to box, but then we hear that it is difficult to match boxers ?

Money, politics, boxers scared of losing that magical "0" (or just plain losing), it is difficult matching boxers nowadays, even for someone I regard as a decent matchmaker in Jon

I'd have no hesitation going to this show if I was able as Jon has rarely put a bad show on as long as I've known him whether it be a 3 fight dinner show or 10 fight open, he usually delivers.

Some fighters just want big money, some want to pick and choose fights a little too much, some fighters are in and out of retirement, when they are offered fights they don't like, they are retired, then when right money comes along or a title opportunity, they are back in the mix, sometimes it's the management asking for too much for their fighters, some fighters just quit the sport after losses, some fighters are injured, sick or either can't lose the weight or get fit in time, some have personal problems outside of boxing. We had over 30 possibles for our fight on the 8th of september at welter, light middle and middle, we did not get any of them, for many of the reasons above, we could have an opponent now, just waiting on conformation, not from the list though but fits the bill if agreed.

One of the main reasons is youtube and places like that you would not beleive how many times i have had good fights turned down because somebodys dad,mate,fellow boxer watches an opponent on you tube and puts the boxer off.
Plus you get guys who have a go and fight hard even when losing getting turned down for being too much of a handfull
E.G a lad i take on the road Andy Patterson won two fights on the bounce by stoppage always gives his all but get beat on points a lot more than he wins by stoppage .Andy had 4 fights lined up over the next month and half and by the finish of the weekend of the 2nd win all 4 had rung up with a variety of excuses and dropped him off the bill.

Also if you have a decent lad with a winning record the away guys will sometimes demand money that just isnt possible for a small grass roots none tv show.

Really tricky game to keep everybody happy and give good fights for the paying public.

Exactly right made a list with saf it had about 15 20 names on all good fights.I discounted half of them wile sitting there as i knew not ready or avaible.Then out the rest not one takes the fight .Hopefully might have one sorted now but not an easy task. And Nas doesnt even have a punchers reputation thank god when a lad has a few stoppages on his record its almost impossible without tv money.
