What were the cards?Il Duce wrote:Saturday Night - November 17, 1979Rover wrote:Pedroza/Aba:

Port Moresby Stadium - Papua, New Guinea
Attendance; 10,000
WBA Featherweight Champion (Eusebio Pedroza makes his 6th Title Defense)
** WBA Champion - Eusebio Pedroza ~ 23-3-0 (14 KO's) ~ Age 23 1/2 ~ 126 lbs. ~ 5' 8 1/2"
vs.
#8 WBA Challenger - Johnny Aba ~ 26-0-2 (12 KO's) ~ Age 23 1/2 ~ 126 lbs. ~ 5' 5"
Johnny Aba is the Commonwealth Super Featherweight Champion. Johnny is a quick fast-handed boxer,
who has a good left jab, and delivers precision like combinations. Not too big on size, and he does not carry
much power. Johnny relies mostly on his swiftness, and crisp counter-punching skills.
This bout was broadcast by the BBC.
Johnny handled himself well thru the first 6-Rounds, and he smartly used his quickness and fast one-two's
to get in-and-out, before the Champion could land any hard counters. The Champion, as usual, landed
several border-line punches.
Round 7, was a 'wild round', as Johnny Aba after getting hit was several hard punches from the Champion,
came back with his own crisp punches while forcing Eusebio into his own corner.
But, the Champion started to get the range in Round 9, and his hard long range punches helped him
maintain command.
In Round 10, Johnny was able to pin Eusebio in the corner and landed several good punches, before the
Champion came on strong in the latter half of the Round and landed several hard punches that had the Challenger
in some trouble.
Entering Round 11, the Television Announcer 'Alf Shaw' said that Eusebio Pedroza was ahead on his Scorecard (97-95)
or 5-3-2 in Rounds.
Round 11 (Controversy)
Both boxers came out looking fresh, and each exchanged left jabs at center-ring. Eusebio then landed a decent left-right to the
body, and Johnny circled to his left. After a light exchange, Eusebio landed a good long range left-right. But Johnny came
back with a good left hook. Eusebio then countered with a 3-punch combination, before moving back to center-ring.
Then Johnny moved forward at the (0:37 Mark) to throw pucnhes, and as he did Eusebio side-stepped to his left and
pushed Johnny on the shoulder with his left hand as he went by.
Johnny fell thru the ropes with his back going through first, between the middle and top ropes (which were loose),
and he fell wth his head landing with a hard thud on the ring apron at the (0:40 Mark)
At the (2:20 Mark) of the Round, Johnny was still laying on the 'ring apron', and it was obvious that he could not continue.
Then, Referee - Stanley Christodoulou walked over and raised Eusebio Pedroza's hand, awarding him a TKO 11 victory.
Eusebio was concerned for his opponent, and went over to ringside to offer his help to his injured Challenger.
This bout should have 'never' been ruled a TKO 11 victory for Eusebio Pedroza.
It should have been ruled a 'Technical Decision' and by going to the scorecards, tallying everything up thru the 10th Round,
or theoretically a (Disqualification).
This bout was promoted by Johnny Aba 'Aba Promotions'.

You mean 58-58?Il Duce wrote:Rover,
Do not have the complete tally.
After 6-Rounds, each Scorecard was 48-48 (2-2-2 in Rounds) 'All Even'
Eusebio clearly won Rounds 7, 9 and 10. Johnny Aba won Round 8.
Oddity, Johnny Aba promoted his own Title Challenge in Papua, New Guinea.
Found that British Television paid $35,000 (U.S. Dollars) for the Europe and British-Commonwealth
broadcast rights.
Eusebio Pedroza was paid $35,000 from Aba Promotions, plus the Champion received the 'ancillary rights'
from both the Panamanian and Central American television broadcast transmission.
Johnny Aba recieved the 'live gate receipts' as his fight purse, plus he had to pay-out all expenses.
