Froch v Bute II - The Precedents

Have been wracking my beer addled brain to think of an example where a fighter has come back from a complete shellacking in a first fight (a la Froch - Bute 1) to win a rematch. The examples I've come up with are mostly fighters suffering a KO without necessarily taking a beating (Lewis v Rahman) or have been close points losses.

What are the best examples of what Bute is looking to do?

Norris - Brown

Honeyghan - Vaca: Lloyd didn't take a beating but he was very poor in fight 1 and hammered Vaca in the rematch (more a case of Honeyghan doing what he should have done first time so not really a good comparison to Froch - Bute).

Louis - Schmeling: the daddy of examples on how to put things right in a rematch.

Bute may do a little better but no way he wins. Got to admire his knackers for taking I though.

Both will be under even more pressure the second time round. Bute will have the pressure of 16,000 of his fans to keep happy. Froch will simply concentrate on victory, not bettering his last effort.

I like Bute as a bloke and to watch. Could be another bad loss for him, maybe Froch decks him cold if Bute gets too brave when hurt again.

I forecast it will be a huge boxing ring on the night.

You know after it first happened i thought Froch would always bash bute up on a return fight ,but after watching the fight again the other night on sky sports would i be the only one in thinking that a 2nd fight might be closer when they meet for a 2nd time ?

The most famous has to be Floyd Patterson/ Johansson - Floyd down 7 times before getting KO'd, then turns the tables with a stunning ko in the rematch.
Bute is going to get knocked out again though. He's a fighter who thrives on confidence, and he'll have less than zero when he sees Carl coming at him again.

Froch knows he can bully the guy and will go all out to brutalise him again.

It would have been very easy to just go a different route and pick up other titles. I really think he is confident he could win, given the different circumstances. I think he is wrong BTW, but there is a reason he has taken it, in my opinion

Brown vs Norris

Prior to the first fight Norris was the man at light middle he was killing his opponents with his speed, skill and physical strength (he could bench press 11 repetitions of 270lbs) he was then matched with the apparently shop worn ex welterweight champion Simon Brown, in his last fight Brown had been comprehensively outscored by Buddy Mcgirt.

In the first fight “terrible terry” elected to stand and trade with his heavy handed and sturdy rival which resulted in Norris getting trounced and knocked sparko in 4.

In the rematch Norris boxes, moves and completely bamboozles Brown winning a widely scored unanimous decision over 12 rounds.

Surprised that Clubber Lang didn't mention his own contests against Rocky Balboa. He destroyed the Italian Stallion in two rounds but was totally out thought by Rocky in the rematch. If Bute starts being trained by a charismatic ex-rival and rediscovers the eye of the tiger, he should have no problems.
