Murphy-Farnell

I already typed this post out once, wanted to make some adjustments but went for a crap first, came back and the page was blank, clicking back on my browser proved fruitless! Annoyed from Middlesex....

I think of the 3 main fights on Sky this weekend, although lacking the skill and finesse we will most likely see in Corrales-Casamayor, and lacking the status of Harrison-Estrada, it could still be the most exciting of them.

As such I thought it deserved it's own thread. It probably had one when Bennie announced the matchup but I can't be arsed to look back 4/5 pages.

I have a feeling for Farnell in this one. I had never seen Murphy prior to Elcock (and didn't exactly see him for long then either) so this isn't exactly a confident pick, but I believe Farnell will be extremely cautious of Murphy early on, covering up well e.t.c and might extend him into the second half of the fight. When he does so I can see him coming on strong and might have too much for the inexperienced Scot.

Farnell W12....

Murphy is now guaranteed to flatten Farnell in the first!

Unless Murphy shows a shocking lack of legs and stamina I think this will be a fairly easy nights work for him....

He is as good if not better boxer than Elcock, hits harder and has a better chin... I know its not always that simple but you hav eto use some benchmark to base predictions...

You're probably right Matt although I have a feeling this little Middleweight saga might turn out to be a kind of 'paper-scissors-stone' carousel.

Farnell loses to Elcock who loses to Murphy who loses to Farnell who loses to Lockett who loses to Elcock and so on....

Knowone knows if murphy has a descent chin yet, but i agree he will walk over farnell, who will then make an excuss and say he should have stayed at LM, murphy has a excellent amature record, we will see if he's a better boxer than than elcock, both elcock and murphy have only a hand full of fights between them, i would like to see elcock vs lockett, then the winner vs murphy or farnell, i think murphy 1st or 2nd round ko.

If Farnell can get through the early rounds he has a good chance.

But I reckon his customary slow start will see him overwhelmed inside 2 rounds.

Farnell has struggled repeatedly at middleweight, which is not a good sign going into this one. It's a bit like Danny Williams prior to the recent Sprott fight - all his recent fights have been unconvincing, a classic sign of a deteriorating fighter (even though he's only 25).
I do believe, however, this will be a hard, distance fight. But Murphy, on home soil, should prevail.

S: Murphy went 6 or 8 with Nembhard for a draw and Chris hits pretty damn hard.... he nearly knocked Magee senseless and I saw him leave one of our top super middles in a daze with 16oz gloves when sparring once.

I think Farnell will beat Murphy by late stoppage or UD. Murphy doesn't actually punch that hard, he just caught Elcock right on the temple. Looking at his reaction, I think he was as surprised as anyone that he ko'd Elcock. Murphy has also been fighting 4 and 6 rounders his whole career, where as Farnell has been the distance on a number of occasions. I'm thinking along the same lines as Goz, where the domestic middleweights will just keep beating each other (Eastman excluded of course).

good call knockout, elcock was due to face nembard last year, is nembard LM now?, but i know he's a good fighter, i think to be fair most of the top 10 can bang, should be a good year if they all fight each other, the one that puzzles me is lockett, when they offered him elcock and farnell last year he would'nt touch them with a barge pole, now he has i good ko he's after all the big names.

He got shot a few times in the stomach when he was over in Kingston last time and this really hindered his training and consequent performance against Denis Inkin....

Shame cause he is a really nice guy and an exciting fighter..... Really a case of "what if".... seconds away from beating Magee, controversial loss to Barney...... both of whom went on to win "world titles" straight afterwards...

What happened in the Magee fight, knockout?

He flattened Magee in the first round... Brian was sparko, somehow managed to get to his feet and the ref let him continue.... was a pretty even fight from there on in. Magee clawed things back then Chris started hurting him again but got cut and the ref stopped it... Very unlucky....

Interestingly the fight was very late notice. chris was a late replacement....
Brian had been preparing for someone else and guess who is sparring partner was.... Chris Nembhard!!!!

Tony was at the fight, i remember talking to him afterwards

I think he is probably 1 soft match away from being back in the mix. They showed his last fight in "Ringside" last night, and in the post match interview Lockett said to the Camera "I have a message for allegedly, I want my Big fight. I'm been promised a big fight 3 times, and I want it now".

He looked good (like he did pre tsrenko, so who knows). But he's got no right to talk like that. A devestating loss, a terrible performance after that and months of inactivity have hardly earnt him the right to make public demands like that.

Nembhard was a banger, no doubt, but didn't Gary Lockett clean his clock?
