Re: Redmption the key for Ricky Hatton
Gotta be honest, I wasnt really won over by the press conference... I found it all a little depressing that a man who has basically done it all in the ring and come up short is now looking at coming back to relive his glory days, basically because he wants people to be proud of him and can't move on. The idea that he wants people to be proud of him again or wants his kids to be proud of him and feels he can only achieve that goal inside the ring is all a little tragic for a man of 33.
What's he gonna do when he's 40 and can't get back in the ring?
What's he gonna do when he gets a little carried away and steps in with a hungry banger and gets flattened again?
Is he ever gonna come to terms with the Mayweather and Pacquaio losses?
I don't know, its not my life or my decision, but it all felt a little tragic watching him giving his reasons for comming out, the hunger to fight didnt seem there to me, was more about wanting the fans to cheer his name again. All just felt a little uncomfortable to me. Really hope it works out for him though, loved watching his career. Speaking as a British boxing fan, I was always proud of his achivements in the ring and even in defeat I thought he always went out in trying to win. Watch how he throws himself into the 10th round against Mayweather when he has nothing in the tank or how he comes out and tries to lay it on Pacquiao in the 2nd even though he's gone. I always appreciated his desire to win, but my heart really isnt in this come back and I'm not convinced Ricky's is either.... Time will tell, I wish him luck though.

A wee bit OTT, it was hardly "tragic"
Bowe's comeback was tragic. Hatton isnt brain damaged and was always a great trainer.
Hatton - Khan would be quite the spectacle.

I said 'a little tragic' and I wasn't talking Shakespearean tragedy, there are degrees of course, but fair enough. I just found it all a little desperate... no, not crack whore desperate.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:

I think hatton could take khan the type of punches (couple of heavy ones but no bombs) he landed on mayweather would flatten khan.
And he was completely smashing paulie to pieces khan couldnt take that type of pasting.

I agree with Checkhook, the talk of people not knowing what goes on his head, and how he wants his kids to be proud of him makes me think that another beating is the last thing he needs. He needs to come to terms with his best days being behind him at some point and I just don't see this comeback doing him any good. I hope I'm wrong but I can see him beating an opponent type and taking a beating when he steps up to world class.

A great trainer? He ballooned big time between fight. His body has went through a lot in the last 3 years. I dont fancy his chances of any success on this comeback at all.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:spam wrote:Gotta be honest, I wasnt really won over by the press conference... Yes, he was a fantastic trainer, i dont think anyone in boxing would argue with that.

My point is I don't think he can compete at the level he did before. The years he's had out will show with whoever he fights. He should stay retired.

Re: Redmption the key for Ricky Hatton
99% of ex fighters come back for money. Financial pressure and bad business ventures force the hand. If things were going well then Ricky would not be coming back; people get used to a fantastic lifestyle and that lifestyle costs a lot of money, as does keeping up appearences.
Re: Redmption the key for Ricky Hatton
I don't think it is about money with Hatton, I think it's because he cannot accept not being a fighter anymore. I hope he comes to terms with it better should he take a beating when he steps his comeback up, which I fear he will.
Re: Redmption the key for Ricky Hatton
If it's not about the money he ought to box Witter for British Title money he's that concerned about 'giving him a big payday'. Think he'll do that?Matt W wrote:I don't think it is about money with Hatton, I think it's because he cannot accept not being a fighter anymore. Re: Redmption the key for Ricky Hatton
Hatton spouted the usual cringy cliches about coming back...what the people want, make my kids proud, redeem myself after my loss, not the way to go out, one last shot....
A big load of bollocks ...
its about the money ...
and Hatton and any other boxer (like Haye) would get my respect in a heartbeat if they just came out with it and said 'Who'd turn down £1.5m for just one more fight?'

Re: Redmption the key for Ricky Hatton
What concerned me most about him coming back is that he talked about wanting to win world titles again and not just come back for lower level fights. It's ok coming back to get a bit of redemption for a bad loss and go out on some sort of a high but if he really thinks he can mix it with the big boys of the division then he'll be in for a rude awakening.
If I were him I'd take the Witter fight next year as even though both are massively past their best you could guarantee it would sell out the City of Manchester stadium easily and that is a big fight he could win. If he put on a decent show then I'd look for a shot at Brook or Khan as a final fight before retirement. Any talk of Floyd, Pacman, Cotto and the like will end very badly. Ironically all of them would probably love to fight him again as it'd be a huge payday for virtually no risk.
