Santos Laciar v. "Too Sharp."

Post by Rover »

Giacomino mentioned Laciar in another thread, and it got me thinking about flyweights. Laciar never lost his title in the ring; he even moved up and beat Roman for the super flyweight championship. Johnson likewise never lost his flyweight title in the ring. Laciar also had a chin; never KO'd in 100 fights.
Johnson by close decision for me; harder shots would carry the day.

Johnson was dominant at 112 and I only wish he'd gotten the chance to fight the other beltholders. Laciar was better than anybody Johnson fought at 112. He had great stamina and stength and I would give him a chance of outworking Johnson late in a 15-round match and getting a close decision if the fight were outside the US. A 12-rounder in the US, I would give to Johnson, something like 116-112.

I did this match-up just for you.:)
(Though I hope others contribute, too.)
That's a tough thing about these match-ups: Laciar was a 15-round fighter (at flyweight). Johnson always fought 12 rounds. Johnson/Arbachukov...shame it never happened.

Johnson was never "sucking wind" at the end of the 12th....and did not seem to show a fade toward the end, so I'm not sure it would pose a challenge for him. But Laciar sure would pose a challenge lol, though I'd still give ever so slight of an edge to Johnson all things being equal.
