Riddick Bowe's amateur career
Riddick Bowe's amateur career
Outside from his achievements at the 1988 Olympics, the only thing I ever heard about Riddick Bowe's amateur career is that he lost to Jorge Luis Gonzalez (1987) and Adolpho Washington (1984).
Can anyone supply me with further detalis about who he fought and what titles he won.
Tnaks a lot!

That probably right. His loss to Washington was at 165 lbs.
AlisterA middleweight Bowe, can't imagine it
I'm sure I also read that Lennox Lewis first Amatuer fight was at Welterweight.

bowe lost a 3 rd dec to salters, but then beat him twice.
his olympic perforamnce was as follows:
Ko2 biko botowamungu
Ko1 peter hrivnak - QFs
W3 alex Miroshnichenko - SFs
Lko2 lennox lewis - Fs
lennox tried give bowe advice on one of the above fellas he was about to face and he noticed bowe seemed to have no attention span and his eyes were everywhere & restless.
ray mercer moved out of bowes room because bowe would ask him at night if he ever thought about 'defeat'.
seems like an odd fella.

Is this a joke? I mean I know Lewis was pretty skinny as a yoot' byt surely not that Skinny? Seeing as he weighed 235 and was very lean by his early 20's, he must have been a very young amateur to be a welterweight...KOJOE90 wrote:Me neither.bollocks wrote::o A middleweight Bowe, can't imagine it :oAlister wrote:

I'm sure I read it in Boxing news years ago, I assume Lennox was about 12, so weighing around 147lbs at 12 is still a big lad.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Is this a joke? Bowe stopped his three opponents when winning light heavy gold at the World Juniors in Bucarest, Romania in 1985. He stopped Sadovski, Sov RSC 1, Damian, Rom RSC 1 and in the final Peter Hart, Hun RSC 1. Pretty impressive!
He was US Under 19 champ that year but never won the senior title.
He claims to have had 204 wins and 7 losses but we all know how it is with amateur records and their credibilities.
In his semi-final victory over Miroshnichenko at the Olympics he got two standing eights but came back and gave the russian two or three counts to win a 3-2 decision.
