They do it quite a lot in South America, apparently, in order to build up guys' records so that they come to Europe or the US with credentials like... Well, 30-1.Newport Daz wrote:This guy has a weird record. He's only fought a handful of different opponents, but fought them several times each. Are there not many pro's at his weight in S. America? This guy would be a typical Sports Network opponet, good record on paper but no one knows anything about him. I guess Bomber is just pleased to be getting an outing on a big card.
But its not a Sports Network show, is it? It is a chief support to a poor main event on a Matchroom show live on Sky.Newport Daz wrote:This guy has a weird record. It's bullshit, most of it's fabrication or at least deliberate exaggeration of one's abilities; there's a Brazilian cruiserweight, can't remember the name, something like 29-0 (27). He's fought a load of numpties, but a cursory glance at his record makes you think "Ooh, at least he can punch! Look at all those KOs!"
Then, like our Argie friend here, you notice that he's fought the same five or six blokes multiple times, one after another, & then you look at the records of the lads this Brazilian cruiser's beaten & realise that their records are all built on... Opponents of the same bloke. So there are a dozen blokes fighting (almost exclusively) novices or each other, & then every five or six months they get fed to the boy the promoter's trying to build up for a payday.
There's an Argie kiddie called eul (I think) posts over on Current Scene, PM him & get him to explain it to you, he's the one who explained it to me. It's like the ringers thing in Buttfuck Idaho with Verdell Smith or whoever fighting under six different names to inflate a useless guy's record until it's buff enough for him to get a TV payday.
Almost fraud, imo. Like those Latvians Bob Mee wrote about, building up their "record" fighting in gyms then coming over to get pasted

Had one comeback fight, then discovered he had some sort of horrible injury & packed it in, I seem to think, but the memory's cloudy this afternoon...orbtastic wrote:Sometimes though, it's down to complete lack of pro records.
I remember when Torres fought Cotto, people kept asking - how come he's fought so many debutants and novices? It's because at that particular time, the records just didn't exist. If you check his record now, you'll see that a lot of of the 0-0-0 guys now have records, albeit some of them are clearly padders.
Whatever happened to him anyway? Seemed to die a death after that bizarre rematch with Holt.
heh. but he is ever so goodlooking.MachoMan09 wrote:People should take note of this match-up next time they are contemplating virtually sucking off Eddie "The Saviour" Hearn via Twatter..

yeah, but exactly the same as what we do over here but at a lower level. We get those over to build our fighters up to over and fight eliete fighters when theyre damned well stupidly overmatched.
How many of our lads get to 20-0 without fighting anyone of note....
Just done at a lower level.

PS: I am regretting for the first time the deletion of teh Current Scene. Amongst the dreck that eul fella I keep going on about explained how Luis Lazarte's "backers" had rigged things for that fight he had against the Filipino that ended in a riot, including allegations that Lazarte's people had dudes in the crowd to start stuff if it looked like their boy was gonna get a hiding. It was bloody shocking, & I now regret that the Current Scene baby's been thrown out of with the metaphorical bathwater...
Serious question - how many of the cards broadcast by Sky during the 2 years of having 4 promoters were better than this?twenty six wrote:Is this the start of all our fears with Sky getting in a monopoly situation with a Promotor ?
So someone who is ranked in WBA top 10 IBF top 15 and WBC top 10 not worth fighting. Good for takings his rankings who would you made then?twenty six wrote:Is this the start of all our fears with Sky getting in a monopoly situation with a Promotor ?
