Ricky Burns Opponent apparently being named today?

Post by Kyle.Wilson.86 »

Does anyone have any insight as to who Ricky Burns opponent for December 15th is likely to be?

I'm thinking it will maybe be either Gavin Rees or the Korean lightweight Kim Hoon (not sure if thats his correct name)

Anyone able to shed some light on this? Or...who ideally would you like to see his next fight against?

Can't see WARREN and handsome Hearn working together on this one. Apparently Warren offered the fight to Rees but was quickly rejected due to the offer. Its suppose to be a top 10 ranked opponent so there's not a lot of options availible. He's already beat 2 of the top ten and offered Rees the fight. Take your pick.

Adrien Broner
2. Kevin Mitchell
3. Sharif Bogere
4. Jose A. Gonzalez
5. Sergio Thompson
6. Marvin Quintero
7. Ji-Hoon Kim
8. Gavin Rees
9. Paulus Moses
10. Carlos Molina
11. Darley Perez
12. Alisher Rahimov
13. Liam Walsh
14. Samuel Amoako
15. Abner Cotto

Someone like Rene Gonzalez, ranked by a couple of the bodies, looks ok on paper and fairly undemanding in real terms.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Walsh. Hopefully it'll be someone like Kim.

I'm disapointed that Bogere is fighting Abril as it could have made for some comedy headlines - "Burns to face Bogere man" etc.

Is it set in stone? I hope so. Wouldn't Walsh pass on commonwealth if he has a shot at Burns?

He will be fighting Jose A Gonzalez 21-0 or Ji-Hoon Kim 24-7.

Most likely its the unbeaten Puerto Rican.

Yeah i personally dont think walsh deserves a title shot with Burns at this stage...having said that, neither did the likes of layrea and evensen. Not dissing Ricky burns in his defenses by any means. Most champions take slightly less dangerous options in the voluntary stages and step up as they continue to win.

Jorge Linares would be a tough opponent...very skilled boxer. Absolutley schooled DeMarco and then got some bad cuts and started engaging in a toe to toe war with him and the ref stopped it...shame.

I hope Burns continues to win though...plenty of exciting fights to come if he does. Always nice to see a scot and British boxer doing well world wide.

Well from what FW was saying with Bunce on Monday night on allegedly they are negotiating with Golden Boy to go stateside with Ricky against Broner on HBO in Feb/Mar of next year so expect a safer than safe option in the Interim.

I can cope with a Cleverly-esque opponent in December if we definitely have Burns v Broner early next year.

I would not mind seeing Burns in with Ji-Hoon Kim the big hitting South Korean who has plenty of power, throws alot of leather around 100 punches around and is always in his opponents face. That would be a fun one to watch.

Actually really annoyed by the decision to give walsh a shot. Doesnt deserve it in the slightest. He has been allowed to jump to queue in front of so many other people that deserve it before he does. Scandelous. Just hope Ricky doesnt lose it to him. I would much rather if Ricky was going to lose his belt that it was against a top world class and well renouned fighter. Cant understand this.

Typical Warren...looks for the easy way to make a fight happen and at the cheapest option for him.

In a very small defence of warren, he is keeping him busier than a lot of his other fighters

Well that will help the ticket sales along....not of course that, that will have had anything to do with Walsh being given the shot.
