Didn't Evander make something like $150 million?

I think his biggest problem was obviously not believing in contraception. Oh and not realising that all those poor kids of his would need a few hundred grand a year in order to exist..

I am very, very surprised he's letting his 1984 Bronze medal go under the hammer, because when recently asked what he felt was his greatest achievement, he stated being picked to be on the USA Team to go to Los Angeles, was.

I've heard he has 12 Children by four or five different women. Just what was he thinking?... Actually more than football team...

Trouble for Evander is, unlike Tyson, who was also on hard financial terms at one stage, I don't think he could the "One Man show", or go "touring" like Mike does, because I don't see him generating as much interest as Mike.

There's people round here not ever made a hundred thousand with as many kids as him and not as broke; those womens lawyers must be pure pit bull, (bet they'll make more than the babys mothers).

I hope a museum purchases most of the items, its a great shame, but a lesson to all.

A contributing factor is, in the USA they calculate your 'payments' toward raising your children from your HIGHEST earnings. Evander may have had a year when he earned $30M, they will calculate your payments accordingly ( so I am told).

Its a great shame, divorce and child maintenance payments have ruined his finances. I hope he can recover financially and live a good life without money worries.

Dreadful to think everything he ever worked for will be sold.

I have to say if I was a fighter with Holyfield's exalted reputation & wealth I'd be very leery and finical of women and the new 'friends' that go with it. I'd do a Rod Stewart and have a pre nub. He learned the hard way too. Or I'd marry a woman who had wealth; as someone of his status can pick 'n chose.
Too many gold diggers out there. Where are these shit c_nts when these fighters are earning their crust with blood sweat and tears in the gyms before the cameras and belts/cars/mansions/gold watches? That also goes for the entourages. Fighters fall for it all the time. Goes to show that poor working class people have big hearts, and like to share the wealth and good times. Very sad though when the money runs out.

* I can honestly say if I was a famouse person I'd never let that happen to me!

The only people on my pay roll would be the Trainer and promoter and cutsman. And the only entourage would be family. Cause if anyone was gona make money off my name I'd rather it be me Brother and Dad. Not some seedy mugs! As for the bird, if she wesn't a childhood sweet heart she'd have to sign a pre nub or f_ck off!

No sympathy.

He's an enjoyed a lifestyle few can dream of. Now, through his own fault - its going to auction.

I don't feel sorry for him because he had the money & he blew it & that's purely his own fault, but I sincerely hope he doesn't keep boxing just to earn peanuts & risk his health & wellbeing.

Very true, it still turned my stomach reading the auction summary. It doesn't seem like he's learned from his mistakes either.

Heres a good article which explains why the auction is happening.

Had no idea he was in such bad financial ruin.

I can't work out how he made that money in the first place? Tyson I can understand. Tyson was a huge star all over the world. Everyone knew the name. Was he (Holyfeild) as big as Tyson in status before "Iron Mike" went away to prison? Maybe it's different now, but as a kid in the UK, only people that were into boxing knew who he was, e.g. James Toney plus Roy Jones Jr ect. None of me mates in school knew them only Bruno and Mike. I remember the build up to their first fight and he was worth over $250 million then! Again, what mega-fights did he have pre the first Tyson fight that enabled him to accumulate that kind of dough. Surely not from the 2 Bowe bouts?

Holyfield was the defacto heavyweight of the 90s.

He was the only one that managed to face all of his significant peers (with the exception of Tua) during his career.

If the 70s was a heavyweight golden age, then the 90s was a heavyweight silver age & there were some big purses around at the time.

The Foreman fight must have been a money-spinner, the Lewis fights too.

And he used Tua as a sparring partner as well. He was willing to go in with everyone.

And the two fights with Mike Tyson as well. I do agree it is a crying shame to see someone like Evander Holyfield having to auction off his stuff so he can meet his child support contributions but when you are a professional sportsman and you go out to a restaurant or wherever it is inevitable that you are going to get lots of beautiful women throwing themselves at you etc he just forgot to sock it before he rocked it.

All that talent, all that determination, all that money - lived for now and never kept an eye on the bigger picture. Where do these people go for financial advice?

Having loads of kids isn't the problem. It's divorcing the mothers that costs the money.

His pre-fight praying and ringwalk gospel singing doesn't sit too well with his seeming desire to bang anyone (and without a jimmy hat the cretin).

I'm not at all religious but he is. He just isn't very good at it.

Not to mention 'Evan Fields'.
