Bum vs Bum.....Could have happened never did. Who would win?

Post by BoxBuzz »

Tony Galento and Primo Carnera never mixed it up but both careers overlapped nicely. Why did it never happen?

A classic Mutt and Jeff. And while we are on the subject of some of the Italian Stallions, how would each of them fare vs the truly talented Marciano?

Can't wait to hear how the Alp would take them both out with his good mobility, and educated jab.

Sorry to call them bums, I'll admit I wouldn't last any longer with any of them than Jackie Gleason fared with Tony Two Ton's.

....yeah once again.....too much time on my hands. Jaclem...I hope you see this one. Maybe I can get your take on How Ezzard might fare against these two bums.....

I suppose Galento probably tags Carnera with something wild and stops him.
Marciano takes both of them out in the same night.

I'll assume this is a 10 rounder. I pick Galento to KO Primo in 4 or so rounds after a comedic affair. Primo would be constantly pushing out his left to keep Galento at bay and would likely land a lot more, but Galento would eventually get to him with some wild haymakers and crack his less-than-stellar chin. If he managed to last the distance, Primo would likely win the decision, even if he was down a couple times.
Considering he was fat and slow, with no fundamentals, Galento was a helluva fighter.

Carnera was a much better fighter. Much of why Carnera is rated low and why Galento is so overrated is based on two fights.

1. Carnera gets made fun for the Baer fight because he got knocked down so many times. Well, at least he kept getting up and made it to the 11th round. Galento, dspite trying to hanfg on for dear life, could only make it the 8th against Max Baer. somehow Galento seldom gets ripped for this pathetic showing.

2. Way too much is made of Galento's knockdown of Louis. Louis got up right away, and most of the fight hammered on Galento. Galento only made it to the 4th round. Buddy Baer (who also stopped Galento) hardly ever gets credit for decking Louis. Yet somehow, Galento gets tons of credit for it.

Carnera actually gave a decent showing against Louis. More impressive than Galento's showing.

Carnera win over Sharkey was much more impressive than any win Galento ever had.
Carnera had much more heart than Galento. Look at their results of their careers and it really isn't even that close. Carnera was a much better fighter. Head to head, he would beat Galento 4 out of 5.

Galento had plenty of heart, his issues were much more from cuts than they were from being chinny or lacking fortitude.

Carnera also badly sprained his ankle after the first Baer KD and that contributed to his bad balance the rest of the round.

Carnera was a level above Galento; fought and beat better fighters than Tony, and would frustrate the bar owner with his long jabbing and then his strength and rough tactics in-close (Carnera could get as dirty as Galento did; Da'Preem loved the rabbit punch in-close accompanying the hit and hold).
