The boxing career of world champion Eamon Magee was ended by an attack sparked off by a children's row over a snowman, the High Court has heard.
Mr Magee, from Lagmore Dale, west Belfast, had his leg broken last month after being beaten with a baton.
Joseph Clarke, a 52-year-old self employed motor mechanic, whose home is in the same cul-de-sac at Lagmore Dale, was remanded in custody earlier this week on three charges arising out of the attack.
He is accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing a three-foot baton as an offensive weapon and causing criminal damage to a car in which Mr Magee had been a passenger prior to the attack attack.
At a bail application, a prosecution lawyer told the court sitting in Belfast on Wednesday that there was a lengthy history of trouble between the Magee and Clarke families.
She said the dispute came to a head following an allegation that Mr Magee's children had damaged a snowman made by Mr Clarke's children.
His lawyer said he totally rejected the allegations.
The judge released Clarke on his own bail of £750 with two sureties of £750 each and made it a condition of bail that he lives at an address handed into court said to be eight miles away.
Mr Clarke was ordered not to make contact with Mr Magee or witnesses.
