UK promoters - question about fight purses

Why do the UK promoters/TV companies never reveal how much they are paying their fighters??. Goldenboy and Showtime like many of the Amercian promoters and Tv companies again has made it public knowledge of what Sat nights fighter are getting.

I find it interesting how much boxers are getting paid as it gets you thinking how much our world champions right down to the show opener guys are making.

Has anyone got any links to other purse splits for full show etc etc

It could the NYSAC who make them public, reading that. I think Malignaggi could easily be brought over here if he is only getting that much in his hometown.

yep mate can understand the commission making the purse public knowledge.

would the fans like to know what the boxers make per fight, as mentioned it interests me.

There always used to be a lack of transparancy about what fighters were getting in US. One of the things Golden Boy were doing when they started (don't know if they still do) was giving the fighter a complete breakdown of what money the fighter was getting inc ppv revenue, what Golden Boy were making, what the expenses were etc. They wanted to be completely transparant with what was going on. Oscar didn't feel that was the case with Top Rank.

It's only the purses that are disclosed to the commission, not PPV splits, back end money etc. When Pac fought Bradley his actual purse was only(ONLY HA!!) $6M, but his actual take was nearer $25.

Ricky Hatton in his book seemed a little sour about the fact Frank W wasn't exactly forthcoming with what he was making out of Hatton and was one of the reasons for the split. Ricky was of the opinion Frank was doing better than he was.

It would be very interesting to see what boxers and promoters make in comparison with each other, but I get the feeling alot would be less inclined to reveal their take!!

The American model often involves a lower purse but with other incentives based on attendance, TV (sometimes ppv) etc and often a share of the net profit of the show overall.
When you're playing with big numbers that's great but how often are big numbers at stake in the UK ?
Not often.
A boxer's earnings are his own business. I wouldn't want my pay being banded around to placate others for instance.
It goes without saying however that joe public I believe would be shocked by the figures ie how low they are, not how high they are.
Excludes the "elite" obviously.

I know it would be interesting to know how much but in the defence of the UK promoters why should they reveal the purses, would you want your boss to reveal to the world how much you are getting paid?

Yes. If you want your boss to keep quiet about what he's paying you, and your boss wants to keep quiet about what he's paying you, chances are you both think he's not paying you what you're worth but are both too embarrassed to admit it.

Or you both don't want the rest of the workforce to know you are getting more than them.
