Rees next opponent?
Rees next opponent?
On Dec 8th. Hearn says it'll be against a top domestic fighter. Any ideas?
Re: Rees next opponent?
Ricky Burns, John Murray or Kevin Mitchell
cant see it being any one other than these if it is a domestic fighter?

Won't be Burns, think he is on another bill in December

Surely not he looks a decent prospect and he's coming off a decent victory in Prizefighter but that doesn't warrant a European title shotCamcas wrote:Flannigan

Flannigan should stay at super feather
Martin Gethins coming off a good win over Johansson so it could be him
Re: Rees next opponent?
All three are Warren fighters and therefore pretty unlikely to feature on a Matchroom card. Can see it being Anthony Crolla.Rogers21 wrote:Ricky Burns, John Murray or Kevin Mitchell

Crolla maybes?...
Re: Rees next opponent?
Crolla just lost against Sykes in Prizefighter. He shouldn't be fighting Rees.
I think Martin Gethin is more likely and respectable.

Re: Rees next opponent?
Crolla needs to ease his way into a comeback and as much as i am a fan doesnt warrant a EBU title shot right now.
Re: Rees next opponent?
Gethin is his Lonsdale mandatory so it'll probably be him.
Re: Rees next opponent?
i thought he would have vacated the British belt as he was rumored to be fighting for a World Title
Re: Rees next opponent?

It's Gettin but I don't think Rees will take it and vacate.

Re: Rees next opponent?
murray, burns, mitchell are all promoted by "him" so it wont be 1 of them. gethin all the way.
Re: Rees next opponent?
got to b martin gethin the fights at purse bids but i can easily see a deal being done between matchroom and errol ( gethins manager i believe) for matchroom to stage the fight.

Re: Rees next opponent?
Looks like Rees has vacated the EBU to push for WBA title shot so very unlikely he's going to be in wi domestic opposition next.
Re: Rees next opponent?
Has he vacated his British title? If not then he probably will be fighting a domestic opponent.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Looks like Rees has vacated the EBU to push for WBA title shot so very unlikely he's going to be in wi domestic opposition next.

Rees is 2nd best in the country by a country mile; he won't beat Burns and would get a Kotelnik style night for his trouble; he is a very good box fighter though and I like to watch him fight, hope he can get right up there nd bag another big belt and earn good money.

Not sure if he's given that up or not? Surely another defence would be high risk low reward type situation? Or an easy payday depending on the opponent.Horse wrote:Has he vacated his British title? Re: Rees next opponent?
I don't see it that way; they both came up at the same time in terms of defences so he's chosen to ditch one. He can keep ticking over with the British, I suppose. You might be right, mind - I'll see what I can find out.Horse wrote:Has he vacated his British title? British will be vacated soon can't say no more fight will be announced Monday
Re: Rees next opponent?
There's no one exept Burns in Britain in any case apart from Burns; hope Gary Lockett is keeping you on the straight and narrow and you can get a few good bouts lined up; you've not many years left at it, better do em in and make some proper money
Re: Rees next opponent?
Mitchell and Murray would both be good opponents. Rees is above them right now, but not by a long way.palooka wrote:There's no one exept Burns in Britain in any case apart from Burns; hope Gary Lockett is keeping you on the straight and narrow and you can get a few good bouts lined up; you've not many years left at it, better do em in and make some proper money
Re: Rees next opponent?
They are good opponents Horse, though both are coming off bad losses, Burns is No1, Rees Mo2, Mitchell No3 aad Murray No4; Burns is doing very well and has the height and reach and skills to be a bad bout for Gavin. Mitchell and Murray would both be excellent bouts for us viewers but not that good for anyone else.
