He should be fighting regular. I know there are a lack of shows etc but the amount of times he has been out is poor.

I really think that BBBC should consider introducing some sort of ruling that enforces managers and promoters to include mandatory get out clauses in contracts that would allow healthy fighters who have to all intents and purposes been mothballed to move on after a period of inactivity of, say, six months or more.

TV fvcks all of our fighters up. He's been a pro less time than Price and had the same amount of fights(ish). Blame Sky
Re: joe murrays fb outburst
Why isn't he fighting on off-TV shows? I doubt Sky have said, unless he fights on Sky, he can't fight at all. Even when Hatton had a Sky contract, Joe was hardly the busiest fighter.danconnollyeire wrote:TV fvcks all of our fighters up. Look at the schedule, there's plenty of small hall cards that he could use for experience. I'm sure there's plenty of promoters who'd welcome an Olympian on their shows.

Thats what I was thinking, could just put him on another promoters show to keep him ticking over/in the public eye a bit more. Didn't Hearn put Scotty Cardle on someone elses show this month or last month?
Re: joe murrays fb outburst
i think the problem would b money he signed a very lucrative deal 12 months ago im sure it was a 3 year deal on the basis of fights (wen he signed i presume they promised the world to him) but with hattons not using him he might b out the price bracket for small hall promotors to use on shows imoearsjohn wrote:Why isn't he fighting on off-TV shows? Add to that all training, physio, acommodation, flights etc. paid for (and no trainer / manager / promoter to pay).
These lads/girls also probably get sponsored cars and other sponsorship - in total they are probably better off financially than 90% of British Pro's.
Re: joe murrays fb outburst
His brother John had a similar outburst a couple of years ago, slagging of his promoter.maley1984 wrote: i think the problem would b money he signed a very lucrative deal 12 months ago im sure it was a 3 year deal on the basis of fights (wen he signed i presume they promised the world to him) but with hattons not using him he might b out the price bracket for small hall promotors to use on shows imo
Mick H came out and said that John Murray had been offered fights but his purse demands were too high.
Both parties at fault as they had signed a contract that guaranteed a minimum purse for each fight, which is fine when things are going well.
I understand the situation, but at this stage of his career (for development as well as earnings) surely it is better to box 6 times a year for a lower purse than twice a year for a higher purse ?

Re: joe murrays fb outburst
Yes the VIP Blackpool show when Brian Rose knocked out Vivian Harris also Hatton let Matty Askin fight on the same show aswell.mfc_se15 wrote:

Hopefully Joe is on the Hatton comeback undercard. Needs a decent fight badly doubt for his next one but certainly the following fight.
Re: joe murrays fb outburst
The problem is a mixture of the economic climate and the unrealistic deals offered to fighters as a result of the 2008 Olympics. The promoters cant afford to pay these contracts which were unrealistic and as a result the fighters just dont get to fight.
The market needs to adjust back to its true value. Then fighters can get on shows and actually earn. Not the pie in the sky that was offered.

Re: joe murrays fb outburst
x2 - Sky are obviously a huge part to blame with this. Their cutting back is really affecting the sport. Was it short sighted of Hatton Promotions to predict that the Hearns will monopolise Sky boxing 4 years after signing Murray.wrimc wrote:The problem is a mixture of the economic climate and the unrealistic deals offered to fighters as a result of the 2008 Olympics. 4 years ago Matchroom were seemingly out of love with the sport, putting on not frequent shows. FW and Hatton promotions where the 2 "big cheeses" with Sky.
Ultimately it was short sighted of Hatton promotions, but hard to predict that. Fighters like Murray will probably cost to much for a small hall promoter, particularly with a middle man involved.

Re: joe murrays fb outburst
Everyone can theorise but only the Promotor and the Fighter know the truth.
A contact exists.
If either party is not fulfilling the contract - then there is a get out.
Now I'm no Wazza fan but have to say if he was a Wazza fighter there'd be murder on the dance floor here.
Everyone has to get real - there isn't the money around.
If the money in the contract per fight can't be fulfilled then he should look for a new promotor, or agree to fight for less.
I suspect however that if he tries the former then he will be hard pressed to match or surpass the existing deal.
As for the latter - that's the fighter's choice.

Re: joe murrays fb outburst
No one I know is earning what they were 3 or 4 years ago; I imagine boxers and managers and promoters are in the same boat.
Re: joe murrays fb outburst
Cardle fought on that show Beacuse he is from Blackpool and that's was part of the deal that he is fights on the show but does a minimum amount of tickets, therefore making the manager/show money.
I have had 3 fights matched where the shows have been cancelled due to lak of ticket sales.
So why don't fighters like Murray box on small hall shows not promted by their maanger in there home town city, even if it's just a sharpener 4-6 rounder. On the basis that they sell a certain amount of tickets.
Therefor although the promoter isn't getting one of their boys out still making money on ticket sales, te boxer is keeping busy and sharp and his manager still takes their 25%.
Win win surely???

simple, when discussing a contract with a promoter include a get out clause, if you don't get a minimum amount of fights.jessi wrote:Good ideaMachoMan09 wrote:I can really understand his frustration. It's abit strange that Ricky hasn't put him on his undercard
good fighter is Joe ands its a shame to see him on the sidelines like this.
November 24th Ricky is not just fighting for himself, he is fighting to save his promotional company IMO. If he wins in good style he can go back to Sky and try to negotiate some dates off the bask of he expected Malignaggi fight- if he loses he's a boat without an engine...Quigg, Martin/Joe Murray etc will have to leave him and go to Matchroom.

Re: joe murrays fb outburst
I can only think Sky want to see if he has anything left before committing to a box office event. My understanding is that talks went well, and will reconvene after November 24th depending on Ricky coming through ok. For me the channel 5 thing is pie in the sky otherwise they would be on board for this one IMO. Hatton v Khan is the end game IMO-both camps will try to keep there fighters on a reasonably safe course in order to cash out on this event which can only happen on SBO. I still think Ricky will end up working with Matchroom to put on Quigg/Munroe - Frampton ang Murray - Barker together IMO.twenty six wrote:If Sky were interested, why didn't they do this one mate ?

Re: joe murrays fb outburst

Maximum lottery funding is £27,000. But you have to win a gold medal to get that.
