Who is seriously going to accept a fight with him, its a no win situation. If you win nobody cares because he's a retired Cricketer and if you lose you will be a laughing stock. The money will probably be good to be fair.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not slagging him off. Far from it. It's just I've never been as fat as that since I hit puberty. Seriously. Providing you, first and foremost, eat right and aren't a lazy bastard, there's no excuse for carrying any more bodyfat than he is there - unless you want to, of course, which is fine.

Ripped or not, you don't see many top ten current heavyweights looking in as good condition as Freddie does in that picture.

Just because hes lost a bit of weight (which training full time for a boxing would do anyways) doesnt mean hes going to be a good fighter.

Would agree that it looks like he has left off the chips and pies as opposed to doing the training. Although he might not be doing a weight training regime in his boxing training which gets the from me.

I heard him on 5live this morning, he said he's lost 40lbs and that he's found it really hard work. He sounded a bit embarrassed by the photo when asked and mentioned that he does feel fitter but in a different way to cricket

Considering the previous attempts at getting celebs boxing for tv shows he appears to be taking it very seriously
if it is some attempt at crazy method acting it has grabbed my attention.
I say good luck though he can come across as a bit of a prick at times.IMO

I guarantee he won't be the worst to ever turn over but that doesn't mean the sytem isn't flawed. I've seen 'trial bouts' being conducted and they are a bit, scratch that, a lot of a joke. The guy from the Board turns up, you spar a lad who knows it's a trial bout and therefore helps you look like you can handle yourself - because he'd be a bit of a knob if he went to town on you, wouldn't he? - everybody has a nice friendly chat and Bob's your uncle.

Proven wrong time and time again by the number of unlicensed fighters who turn over only to be beaten by journeymen.

Not sure how different this really is from Curtis Woodhouse.... of course its proven to be a very good decision to licence Woodhouse - but he had no experience and it wasn't really documented how long he was in the gym before his debut. He might have been in there months before, but he was also juggling it with a pro football career at the time.

You never know he might be a natural. I've seen amateurs who have given Welsh internationals GENIUNE fits who have been only at the game less than a month (sparring I mean). Okay, often they will be a weight category bigger but not significantly.

We'll see in a few weeks if it was a terrible/farcical decision or not - lets give him a chance.
