Can Blackwell beat Saunders ?
Can Blackwell beat Saunders ?
Thoughts on this ?
I noticed on a recent thread when the Fight was annouced it seemed as though most thought it was a foregone conclusion with Saunders to Win by stoppage around mid way
However as much as I rate Billy I dont see this being such a simple task and think Blackwell will surprise a lot of people with his ability

Saunders has looked better and better as a pro, I like Blackwell also but i think Saunders is superior in all departments. If Blackwell can get through the first half of the fight maybe Saunders will get dragged into a battle , but i've not seen him have any stamina problems either.

Re: Can Blackwell beat Saunders ?
Blackwell is a very limited, inexperienced young fighter who thinks he is a knockout artist because he learned his trade beating up and stopping some unfit, fat, beer swilling pub fighters on the unlicensed circuit where he was unbeaten in 18 contests. He only knows how to come forward and try and engage in a tear up, now that's brilliant if you punch like David price, David Haye, mike Tyson, joe Louis etc etc, but he doesn't, and giving him all credit he's a tough kid, but Billy Joes movement, hand speed and ring craft is leagues above Blackwell, he can't outbox Billy Joe, so he will resort in doing all he knows how, come forward, by doing so he's going to take some serious punishment, Blackwell only comes in and out in straight lines with little or no head movement, this is going to make a very easy nights work IMO for Billy Joe, I also think that has Billy Joe hits as hard and has accurate has he does, with a much higher work rate and punch count than even Martin Murray, then he stops Blackwell inside 4. I think this fights too early for him again and his team should help the kid learn his trade and get experience, they should of learnt that from the Murray loss, he's only 21yrs old he's got plenty of time, 12 months time, Billy joe will have moved on from domestic level, Blackwell can have 4-5 more fights gaining more experience moving levels bit by bit and can then become a decent domestic level fighter and a force with a real chance of winning the British title and staying champion.

This, basically. No disrespect to Blackwell, but Saunders is a special fighter who is destined for bigger and better things.Boxingcutsman wrote:giving him all credit he's a tough kid, but Billy Joes movement, hand speed and ring craft is leagues above Blackwell.

Anyone else think Saunders would beat Macklin, Barker and Murray already?

For Nick to win he would need to box out if his skin and and make some radical changes to his technique. As Dean has already said Nick just uses straight lines when moving in and out of range and the key will be his head movement. If he just walks straight into range with his hands up with no lateral movement as per usual he will get dismantled by BJS. Plenty can happen, Nick has huge balls and heart and loves a tear up (as did BJS having family involved in the bare knuckle scene) and if he can drag Billy into it, you just never know. I also hear Nick has been having some world class sparring of late which will only help. I think it could be a great fight and I hope Nick does well as he's a really nice kid, but I see the skills and power of Billy stopping a game Nick around the middle rounds.

Barker = Yes (inactivity & injury's have taken there toll IMO, plus I don't think he's physically strong enough to hold Billy Joe off, plus as class a boxer has barker is, I can't see him out boxing Billy Joe, he has better movement, punch variety, foot & hand speed, work rate & power IMO)
Murray = not yet (12-18 months time very possibly)
Macklin = Not yet (6-12 months time yes. Mathew is very 1 dimensional, even though he has great boxing ability & brain. He chooses the head on chest game and try's to set a pace, I think Billy Joe can live with that pace, if not turn it up a notch, and with youth & freshness on his side has Macklin dips in the fight, and he does, Billy Joe will keep the heat on and punish him, with very fast hands & movement IMO. And in 6-12 months time Macklin will be there for the taking due to all the punishment he's allowed himself to take with his style of boxing he's adopted over his career and especially in his Martinez fight & the next 2-3 big fights he'll be in)
Billy Joe would also beat Hope & Proksa already IMO

I think Steve Holdsworth used to say "he's got two chances, slim and none.....and slim just left town"
Blackwell is fodder for a talent like Saunders.

Re: Can Blackwell beat Saunders ?
I wouldn't be matching Billy Joe with any of Macklin, Barker and Murray just yet, i'm sure he will be good enough to take them on in a few fights, but he needs a couple more learning fights yet, get hit back a bit , roughed around and still win.
I think Saunders is a great talent, and he keeps improving as a pro, but the 3 guys mentioned are 3 or 4 fights away at the soonest for me.
