Rees v Murray?
Has this been given the go ahead yet?
Last I heard both fighters were up for it

Re: Rees v Murray?
If FW cares about John he won't let this fight go ahead.
Re: Rees v Murray?
It'll be good for neither long term but it will be one hell of a bust up for 6-8 rounds and call me horrible but I'll be watching, domestic/euro fight of the year potential.
Re: Rees v Murray?
John murray doesn't need to retire but he doesn't need this fight at the moment. He could do with a couple of confidence builders against easier opposition and someone needs to teach him to move his friggin' head, takes far too much punishment.

Re: Rees v Murray?
always said that about murray. why oh why doesnt he even move his head even slightly? he should go to bobby rimmer, bob shannon or oliver harrison. maybe even arnie farnell. he'll be talking to lamp posts when his careers done.
Brian hughes would have done wonders with him.

Re: Rees v Murray?
Murray wins this for me. He will step on Rees when he takes his usual break or slow start or tires late, whatever it is Rees can't do 9 solid rounds and I don't think he's got enough to do Murray in the first 7 or 8 rounds.
Incidentally I'd bet on Mitchell to nail Rees inside 6 rounds. And this is no attack on Rees, I like him and think he's a class fighter. I just think certain styles will beat him and Mitchell or Murray would do it. Murray hasn't become crap overnight.

murray be fired up for this, his lady got a baby on way, things like that often push a fighter on.be a great fight, rees is class boxer but ill be cheering for john.Fair comments tho about more head movement.
Re: Rees v Murray?
Its been confirmed on the Matchroom website now.
Looks a really good card to me now. So will be buying my tickets soon. I assume this fight will now be the headliner with Purdy v Jones and Barker v Hope as joint chief support?

That's great news, personally I see Rees taking this one, unless murray changes his usual gameplan.mfc_se15 wrote:Its been confirmed on the Matchroom website now.

Re: Rees v Murray?
Will be a good fight, Rees should win and will dominate first 6 rounds. If he gets tired in 2nd half then anything could happen
Re: Rees v Murray?
I'm not looking forward to this as I've watched John since his very early career. Johns going to get seriosuly hurt and Gavin could even retire him. John should have had 2 easier fights after big beatings and long time out of the ring before this sort of contest.

Re: Rees v Murray?
is this going to be another murray walking straight foward and blocking most of the punches with his face until he's exhausted again? or has murray been in the gym working on some lateral movement. I like the kid but other than walk forward and throw as many punches as possible he has no tactics or dimensions, something i would have thought would have been easily fixed he's clearly got talent.
Re: Rees v Murray?
I'm inclined to agree. A fit, recharged and disciplined Murray can take Rees late on. But there are big question marks surrounding John. Given Rees near capitulations against Andrew Murray and John Watson I don't think there is much between them. Gavin also made very hard work of a gutsy Derry Matthews and took a lot of shots. I think people get too giddy about Rees because he's a 'former world champion' and because he did a decent job on Mezzache who beat Thaxton.fightfaninfrance wrote:Murray wins this for me. The reality is that both Rees and Murray are European / fringe world class. This should make for a great fight though.

I remember Carl Johannesson started to train himself and then Maloney stepped in an coached him... it led to the purple patch of his career.

Re: Rees v Murray?
A lot of folk are overlooking Murray here IMO. Rees tires a lot in fights and murrays work rate is as good as anyone, his body attacks and pressure could hurt Rees who does like to work at his own pace. The combinations Rees throws are beautiful and then he slips off to the side or back which against a one dimensional Murray but he needs time to so it and the strength to push his opponent back against Murray I'm not sure he'll get either. Murrays work rate and combination punching could nick it for him IMO
Re: Rees v Murray?
It depends as well about how much Murrays last two fights have taken out of him. The way to beat Rees is to work for 3 minutes of every round.
Styles make fights and this should be a cracker.

Re: Rees v Murray?
I'd favour Rees slightly, but the guys Gavin has been beating are not in the same class as the guys Murray has lost to (Mitchell and Rios).
It's true that Rees does some time flag a little after the middle rounds, but by that time he's often dished out so much heavy punishment his opponents can't really fully take over before Rees gets his second wind and ends matters.
