WBA to strip Geale
WBA to strip Geale
Have just heard that the WBA has said it will strip Geale of his title and give it to Golovkin if he goes forward with the Mundine rematch. Apparently this can be avoided if Golovkin will accept some stand aside money for two fights while Geale gets Mundine then Soliman out of the way.
I can't help but think that perhaps the WBA may do a backflip on this ruling if Geale puts his WBA title on the line against Mundine as well.
Thoughts?

Give it to Golovkin? What about a fight against someone for the vacant title dont you have to EARN the title not just be given it?
Re: WBA to strip Geale
Golovkin is the interim/regular champion, or some bullshit like that. Geale being stripped will 'elevate' Golovkin. I think the IBF title has more credibility, even though Geale resteled the WBA title away from Sturm.N2 Shape wrote:Give it to Golovkin? Re: WBA to strip Geale
Te organizations seem to be making it intentionally hard for fighters to hold multiple titles. Geale and GGG will probably meet as some stage anyway. So who holds the title going into the fight won't be as important as who holds it afterwards.
Re: WBA to strip Geale
Has anything been signed relating to Geale and Mundine? it is still not on the Boxrec schedule.
I checked the WBA site a few minutes ago and there is nothing about Geale's titles being taken from him. Where did the story come from?

Re: WBA to strip Geale
I think its fair enough. Geale knew he had to make the mandatory defense but chose the fight with choc (for obvious reasons). So I think he should lose the WBA title.
I am sure Geale knew it would happen but is happy to stick with the IBF in any event. I don't think its a big issue for the geale camp.

Re: WBA to strip Geale
Does this mean you have to be based in Germany to be a WBA Super Champion? Champions usually get 12 months to defend a title.
Re: WBA to strip Geale
It is wrong. He only won the title in September. Champions are given much longer to defens against "mandatory" challengers. WBA name mandatory challengers from outside their area then never give them a shot because of friendship deals.dan h wrote:I think its fair enough. I wonder if Golovkin feels like a shit for taking a belt without beating anybody? Maybe he has no sense of shame.

Re: WBA to strip Geale
I'm not trying to justify the WBAs decision to strip Geale. But if I remember correctly there was talk that Geale would have to defend against GGG soon after if he defeated Sturm.Brute wrote:It is wrong. He only won the title in September. Re: WBA to strip Geale
Sturm avoided Golovkin for two years. And Geale gets stopped straight away? Rubbish

The only reason it is wrong is because Sturm got away with it for so long and the WBA are a joke when it comes to consistency. This was always going to happen the moment Geale chose to defend his IBF belt over the WBA. Geale could keep the belt if he wanted to fight GGG so I got no problem with it.
I think Geale appreciates the IBF belt more, and rightly so IMO. Geale decided if he was going to let a belt go it should be the WBA as they are the biggest joke of the big ones at the moment.
Re: WBA to strip Geale
they should have made geale fight golo next after mundine and strip him then if he doesn't fight him imo.
won't hurt geale too much i'm sure anyway.

It's all crap anyway. Go for the money Dan , that's why it's called prize fighting

DANIEL "REAL DEAL" GEALE
REFLECTS ON WBA SITUATION
November 1, 2012 - After being stripped by the WBA for taking the Anthony Mundine fight, Australian middleweight champion, Daniel "Real Deal" Geale (28-1, 25 KOs) reflects on the decision made by the sanctioning organization.
"Whilst I enjoyed unifying titles and being crowned the WBA super champion it has become ultimately clear to me that it is impossible to keep all the belts," said Daniel Geale. "I am aware of my mandatory obligations, however I felt that the challenge from Anthony Mundine was an opportunity to settle the score once and for all, and I want to thank the IBF for granting me the exception that creates a fight which will please all Australian boxing fans.
"As I proudly remain the I.B.F. World champion, I wish the WBA and whoever they crown the same short lived pleasure as I will be coming to reclaim what is rightfully mine."

Definitely seems that way, the Germans dont like letting go of titles, they seem to not follow the rules or make there own rules up as they go.Brute wrote:Does this mean you have to be based in Germany to be a WBA Super Champion? Champions usually get 12 months to defend a title.
Re: WBA to strip Geale
Gary Shaw is talking about discussing it with WBA head office in Panama (seriously?) after the WBA piss up in Indonesia is over.

Re: WBA to strip Geale
Geale is still a world champion and generally considered #2 at 160, but now has fewer sanctioning fees to pay, more latitude to face who he wants, and a fight with Mundine that will earn him far more money than a fight with Golovkin.
I understand why people think the WBA's decision was unfair, but I don't think it hurts Geale.

Meanwhile, Golovkin has lined up a challenge for Thomas Oosthuizen's IBO Super Middleweight title. Does he want to move up a division?

Re: WBA to strip Geale
Agree with the last. Titles are really meaningless in today's environment. Dan is a prize fighter his only obligation IMO is to select the fights that make him the most money and if he does that then respect and titles will follow.

Re: WBA to strip Geale
Agree 100% mate. A few comments from detractors on current scene who dont seem to see the big picture here for Daniel. If he has breached a contract I can see why the WBA took the belt. But Daniel now has world exposure by doing what no one else could, and thats defeating Sturm in Germany. Now he has the chance to get huge exposure in Australia, get revenge and make a shitload more money than Golovkin could. The extra time will hopefully allow Golovkin to get a few decent scalps on his record (if he is good enough) so the pay day will be reasonable if/when they face off. doesnt hurt Geale at home or internationally one bit IMO.crusader wrote:Geale is still a world champion and generally considered #2 at 160, but now has fewer sanctioning fees to pay, more latitude to face who he wants, and a fight with Mundine that will earn him far more money than a fight with Golovkin.
