Billy Dib Title Defence

Post by Brute »

IBF Featherweight Champion Billy Dib defends his title against Jayson Velez (19-0, 14KOs) of Puerto Rico as the main support to the Trout/Cotto WBA super welter title fight at Madison Square Gardens, New York City, on December 1.

In spite of his impressive looking record, Velez is rated 70 by Boxrec.

A 24 year old in his 20th pro fight has been around a bit long to be called a "prospect."

I wonder if Billy's promotional company's issues will be affecting his prep...

The truth is out there somewhere about the Dibster's dropping off the card.

Somewhere hiding in this article the actual reason may be revealed:

Only the Dibster knows for sure!

What on earth is going on? What has some word mangler impersonating a singer have to do with boxing?

I would say when Dib signed he thought he was signing with PBF and 50. Now he realises PBF has nothing to do with it he is probably spewing..

break the contract. you would hope that billy had some sort of clause in it to say if you dont get me the fights i should be getting then i can walk away and find someone else.
this happens all the time in sports like league, union, soccer, basketball, cricket, blah blah blah. but you never hear of a fighter walking out on a contract with a promoter due to not getting fights. it seems outrageous to me.
is it just that the fighters are being taken advantage of for one reason or another, or are some of them just a bit dumb?
or maybe there is the fighters side of signing on to a set figure each year regardless of fighting or not and then just staying inactive and let the pay cheques roll in (eg guillermo jones style)??
im am a little lost on this one....
