Frankie Gavin's next opponent ?

Post by Peter Parker »

Gavin has said on facebook that his first title defense for the British title in december is someone local to him, but could not name him a present, who could it be ?

Jason Welbourne ( midland area champion ) could be this one, but made for Gavin, not his level yet.

Young Mutley ( former british champion ) surely not this one, Gavin beat him before, winning every round in a boring fight.

Mark Lloyd Lloyd has lost quite a few fights lately, though in good company, all these 3 are the same stable that has done a lot of business before with warren.

Nasser Al Harbi Al Harbi was due to fight him before, but illness forced cancellation, Al Harbi has mixed in good company and beat Lloyd last time out, but he has been competing at light middle lately, can he still do welter ?

Adnan Amar ( former english champ ) Amar was due to face Gavin before, but Gavin pulled out, Amar comes off 2 bad defeats.

James Flynn Flynn has had a few defeats lately, but gave Adil Anwar a good fight for the English title.

Can anybody think of anyone else ?

Wouldn't surprise me if Yassine El-Maachi got the gig.

I think El Maachi is recovering from knee surgery.

He certainly seemed keen to show his face at York Hall last Thursday.

It's good to see that they're finally looking at getting Frankie more active.

Yes, about time, El Maachi would be a dangerous fight for Gavin, if he has recovered fully from the surgery, but would it be an entertaining fight ?

Erm, probably not.

I think the only way Gavin is going to be in really interesting fights is if the opponent comes to take his head off.

Something that only Woodhouse has really done thus far.

Yes, Gavin needs a proper fight, someone who wants to have a go at him, the Witter fight was too much about not getting hit, instead of taking it to the opponent, don't look like the big promoters major players want to fight each other, Vassell, Purdy as examples.

Heffron has been thrown to everyone, Gavin, Smith, Barnes and now Vassell, Heffron is just a young prospect, not a major player.

I wouldn't push him in the direction of either Welborn or Maxwell. Welborn's record doesn't really stand up to scrutiny at this stage, and Maxwell isn't a championship class opponent in my opinion.

There's bags of opponents out there, the opponent should be a top 5 domestic name at the very least.

I'd take your money.

I really like Max, great pro and always gives his all and hardly ever in a dull fight but Frankie would beat him without breaking sweat. Again no disrespect to Max (don't hit me pal) but Frankie is on a different level imho.

Wont be Adnan Amar from that list either , Hes just beaten his stablemate Witter , No way Amar would take that plus i dont think we will see him back at welter again anyway .

Nasser Al Harbi's fight against Jamie Ball fell through due to Jamie's retirement, so Nasser is a real possibility. Plus he was scheduled to fight Frankie earlier this year but it fell through due to Nasser's injury.

I haven't spoken to Frankie recently, given that he is on holiday with his kid but I'm sure he will announce an opponent very soon.

Insider,
I agree its a punt but the odds would make me put my hand in my pocket.
Two reasons - styles make fights, and Maxwell would be HUGE at the weight, whereas I truly believe Gavin should be a LW.

My Twitter is clogged with Nassers Tweets promoting himself , even Barry Mcguigan told him to calm it down

Max would be huge at Welter ? Not so sure, i think he would be hugely dehydrated, no way he can perform at 10st 7lb safely IMO.
