Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
I've been looking over the stats and thinking about the actual progress of Pricey. Yes, his KOs have been impressive but against D level fighters. His last fight was against the ever over-hyped Audley and his next fight is against Skelton. Pulev beat a Skelton two years younger and two years fresher in just his 5 fight! People say Skelton is a good opponant because he is tough and durable and will last rounds but if Pulev bombed him out inside 5 in his 5th fights a few years back, then really, if Price has the skill and power we're all talking about, should dispose of him as quick as Audley.
Pulev is also more active and fighter much better opposition (Alexander Dimitrenko, Alexander Ustinov), so why does Price deserve a Klit?

Price has cleared up anyone he has fought. You must be crazy to say he hasn't made progress. He wants the Lonsdale belt outright so has to go down this road. I'd stick him in with Klit now and fancy him to win. Price would destroy Helenius inside 10 rounds IMO
Re: Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
But does he deserve a Klitschko? Absolutely not. He's beating the sort of guys he needs to be meeting, but he needs at least a couple of meaningful wins before he should be anywhere near a title.

Re: Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
That's what I'm saying. I think he is very good, one of the best out there. But does he warrant a big fight on the back end of beating Audley and a guy Pulev destroyed in his 5th fight? If Fury does fight Boytsov... then surely Price will have to form an orderely queue behind the winner of that fight and Pulev who beat undefeated Ustinov?SamWise72 wrote:But does he deserve a Klitschko? Re: Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
I think they'll make the Price v Fury fight next summer and then the winner will get a shot at a Klitschko. That would seem to be the most sensible move, certainly from Price's perspective.

Then he'll deserve a step up. BUT Wach proved you can look very good against mediocre opponants and people give you a bit of a chance then Wlad makes you look amatuer. Il'd rather see him fight Adamek, Chambers, Helenus, Chisora before even thinking about a KlitSteveDow wrote:I think they'll make the Price v Fury fight next summer and then the winner will get a shot at a Klitschko. I don't think anyone believes that his resume warrants a title shot. Nor do I think little Frank has any intention of putting him in there with a K for at least a couple of years.

You don't know untill Price steps up and fights someone who can take his punches and fights back he could be another Gary Mason

True... someone on another post made a good point. Said it's like playing in the conference for years and then going to play Barca...Glass Joe wrote:You don't know untill Price steps up and fights someone who can take his punches and fights back he could be another Gary Mason

All this hype and build for the guy reminds me of Bruno, just minus the personality
Bruno was still a world champion tho

Re: Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
Crazy topic. Pricey's career has made genuine progress over the past 18 minths, especially when you consider how he was hampered early doors by the Setanta debacle. He's right where he wants to be and you can't say his opposition is D-List at all (Sexton, McDermott etc). A world title tilt in the next 12 months won't happen. 'But', I bet you he wins a world title when he eventually fights for it.

What do you mean by "deserve a Klitschko"? Do you mean beat up Tye Fields to earn a shot at Wlad (Mariusz Wach)? What about get past that behemoth Taras Bydenko - that was enough for Manuel Charr. Maybe he should lose to Tyson Fury and Robert Helenius (on paper) like Del boy did?
This idea that shots are "earned" is as dated as concepts such as one title per division, drug free boxing and Ian John Lewis as a competent official.

But Wach didn't deserve it either. But there was noone else to fight and without the experience (Fury, Price, Wach) they are just being put in there to lose. The only way they will ever 'deserve' a shot is by fighting Helenus, Chisora, Chambers, Adamek, Arreola, Wach, Fury/Priceearsjohn wrote:SamWise72 wrote:But does he deserve a Klitschko? Bang on. Noone 'earns' a fight vs the Klitschkos in this division. It's just about which lucky bum gets the callup. None of them are 'deserving'.earsjohn wrote:SamWise72 wrote:But does he deserve a Klitschko? Absolutely not. Re: Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
I think the Price v Fury fight may end up waiting until 1 or both have a World title. Vitali will be retiring real soon and Fury is in the mix with the WBC so if he keeps winning he will get a shot in the next 18 months or so, and lets be fair he has improved his conditioning and has a decent work rate so I don't think it is inconcievable for him to out work some Ameribum like Arreola who might end up having the WBC title when it comes to it.
Think about it from the money point of view, a Price v Fury fight for a World title would generate millions and millions. If they were to fight early next year for the British and Commonwealth titles then it would be great for us to see it but (and maybe I am wrong) it wouldn't generate the same interest Worldwide and thus wouldn't make the same amount of money.

Re: Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
Who's going to want to fight Price now? The risk-reward is terrible. Fury/Hennessy aren't interested, nor are the likes of Adamek, Povetkin, Arreola...
Haye is probably his best bet outside the K2 and Haye would be the favourite in that one...

You say it like being another Mason is a negative. If Price has a quarter of the chin Gary had he will do well.Glass Joe wrote:You don't know untill Price steps up and fights someone who can take his punches and fights back he could be another Gary Mason

Re: Is David Price making any 'real' progress?
It's still early days but he has progressed as a fighter in my opinion.
His opposition has been less than stellar given his amateur credentials but it is what it is. He wants the Lonsdale so Skelton and another after that is the deal.
As for putting him in with a Klitschko right now and backing him to win...far too early for such talk. Even the Helenius thing is premature. Check the amateur records, Pricey has already fought Helenius and he lost! I know it's different in the pros and that was a long time ago but it's worth noting that Helenius looked every bit as impressive when fighting the standard of fighter Price has so far, in fact Helenius was knocking out better fighters in decent style and yet look how poor he looked when he took a little step up against Del Boy! ( granted, he may have been injured etc )
Basically it's still early days. Putting him in with Wlad now ( or at any point in my opinion, at least while Wlad is still in his pomp anyway ) will see Pricey getting sparked.

Price is knocking people over but those early nights work against you when you have a guy who can take you into the later rounds and actually hit you back.

Why not? Price's best EVER win is against Sam Sexton in 5 rounds earlier this year.keithmoonhangover wrote:TopGun wrote:I'd stick him in with Klit now and fancy him to win.
Wlad and Sexton are basically on a par. It's almost too close to call between them.
Based on that, Price would probably finish Wlad off a couple of rounds earlier than he did Sam
When you factor in that David is up against 47 year old Matt Skelton next (a genuine 50/50 match up), IF Price comes through that unscathed ( which is a MASSIVE ask tbf) then I'd say he would be MORE than prepared to face Wlad in March in a Germany outdoor stadium
